Hotel Help-Five people with 24 hours in London

My family of five (three children in their twenties) is planning an overnight stop in London on the way to Africa. Flying to LHR on Saturday morning and flying out Sunday morning. Will likely use a car service to save time and expect (hope!) that traffic will be reasonable at these times. Realistic about what we can see in such a short time--will probably go to the Tower of London and, if there is time, a quick visit to the British Museum. Then after dinner kids will want to find pubs to meet locals and DH and I will look for a tour or hire a car for a drive-by look at some of the sites after dark. We need a hotel that will accommodate the five of us in two rooms. Does not need to be near tube. Looking for a place close to interesting nightlife for the kids, but a good nights sleep for parents. Could go to $200 per night for each room. Any suggestions?

www.londontown.com
www.hotwire.com ( one for 2 plus one for three) and check www.betterbidding.com to decipher hotel name on hotwire.

Thank you, lincasanova. I looked at betterbidding and londontown and ended up deciding to just stay at a Hilton using points.

jangonow: WHICH Hilton?

They are not all created equal -- especially in London. Some are in great locations and several aren't.

Reserved at the Waldorf Hilton. Do you know the area? Any interesting pubs nearby?

That hotel is in a fabulous location. Right on the edge of Covent Garden, easy walk to Trafalgar Sq. and the river. Very VERY central.

You won't really need any advice for pubs -- there are many pubs, restaurants, and cafes w/i a 2 to 5 minute walk. They are thick on the ground.

"or hire a car for a drive-by look at some of the sites after dark."

Driving a car in London is a bad idea, public transport is very good.
