Hotel Help
I am traveling to Paris and Venice in April, along with my first-timer-to-Europe husband. In Paris, cannot determine whether it would be better to stay on Ile-St-Louis (at Hotel Lutece) or in St Germaine (at the Millesime). I have exhausted myself trying to sort through all the conflicting info on hotels and areas - any thoughts or experience with either place that you can share?
Also, in Venice I am currently booked at the Hotel American in Dorsoduro, but have the option of staying at Pensione Accademia. Same question - any thoughts or experience with either place that you can share? Thanks! |
Hello,
You might want to try agains with "Hotel Help--Venice and Paris" in the title---that will get lots of attention. I haven't stayed at either place in Venice (we like Pensione La Calcina) but I remember walking by the Hotel American and thinking that it looked charming; very nicely located on a small canal. Dorsoduro is definitely a good place to stay, whechever you choose. |
Hi O,
Look up your hotels at "search this forum" and www.tripadvisor.com. The Accademia has lots of fans on this forum. ((I)) |
Hi
My favourite part of Paris is Ille St Louis. For me it's got a village feel to it and I found it quieter and less frenetic than the rest of the city. If your husband is a first timer in Paris I would be inclined to stay in St Germaine. It would be handier to the metro and the touristy stuff. I guess it's about ambience v convenience. I hope this helps. |
well, I think you will have a nice time in either location, so you can't go too wrong.
I can't determine based on the hotel itself, but if you want a vote, I would stay at the Millesime myself. I just prefer the location and the things in proximity, transportation convenience, easy of getting other places, and other things. I don't care to stay on islands, myself. |
Hi, I can personally vouch for the Hotel de Lutece as I stayed there over New Year's Eve 2004. It's a simply decorated hotel but very clean, has antique furnishings, great staff, wonderful coffee, and theh location is excellent. However, the Millesime gets great comments too and its St. Germain location is excellent also.

We stayed at the Hotel American and found it in a perfect location for us on the San Vio canal in Dorsoduro. The double room was lovely, but small. The bathroom was newly remodelled and spotless, but very small. The public area was inviting and the breakfast was an abundant cold buffet. I've enver stayed at the Pensione Accademia so can't compare.
