Hotel Hassler
 

Has anyone stayed in the small double room at the Hotel Hassler?

If so, what was your experience?

Was the 22 square meter room extremely cramped?

When I read this title I thought it was about someone at a hotel that hassles people. :-)

OK, I've been of no help to you, but if nothing else, I've bumped you to the top.

Where is this hotel?

I've noticed that the Hassler (at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome) is rarely mentioned here and probably for a variety of reasons.

We've stayed once and actually in one of the rooms which overlooked the Steps so not in that room you are talking about (one square meter = about 10.7 square feet).

I would read any and all reviews on Trip Advisor about the Hassler. I personally found part sof the interior somewhat drab but that was a couple years ago. And there's that hotel right next door which probably has just as great a view and for less money.

Wish I could offer more.

Anyone have any insight for me? I've reviewed tripadvisor and feel comfy booking it.

Topping this again for you in hopes someone will respond.

I've stayed there three times (honeymoon and 5th and 10th anniversary). I wouldn't stay there again. The rooms and public areas got more and more worn out with each trip and the service and friendliness of the staff was not the best. The last time I did stay there was in 2000 so maybe they have refurbished since then. Don't eat breakfast there unless you enjoy paying $40 for a roll, juice and coffee. If you want a five star luxury hotel, I'd look at the de Russie (what I consider the nicest hotel in Rome) or the St. Regis (gorgeous rooms, wonderful staff but slightly out of the way location).

So you need to imagine a room about 12 foot by 16 foot. Not bad for a double.

all other things being equal, I'd prefer to go for the best room in a smaller or slightly less luxurious hotel rather than an iffy room in a top place. They often try to pawn off lesser rooms because they have the reputation. I don't think that 12 X 16 is great for what I presume are luxury prices---what price did they quote you?

The restaraunt was was good, but expensive. It has a great view.

When I ate there 3 years ago, the lobby was looked fine, but looked worn. By looking at the lobby, I do not think the price would warrent the quality of the room. The staff was very nice.

Room size is typically given as gross area and includes the bathroom and closet and if there is a terrace, includes that as well. 22 square meters is bit small for two people for anything more than one night, esp with a double bed, and even for one night you will feel cramped, IMO esp at those prices. If you have a lot of luggage (i.e. are on a long trip to other cities) it will be even more crowded.

I agree that the Hassler has seen better days, although I had heard they have done some rooms over. I was in the roof bar last May and thought it and the lobby were fine, but tired as others have noted. Also agree on the Russie, but you have to watch room size there too, this is generally the case in Europe.

I have also stayed there a few years ago, and agree with the comments here, unless they have refurbished recently. We had much nicer rooms for less than the Hassler, at the Inn at the Spanish Steps and at the Inghilterra.

Ah yes, if that includes the bathroom then forget if, if you are splashing out for an expensive room you deserve better.
