Hotel Gutkowski in Siracusa

Has anyone stayed in this hotel? It's listed in the Frommer's guidebooks and several others, it's reasonably priced and right in Ortigia, but TripAdvisor has some mixed reviews. Our alternatives are the Posta or the Roma hotels, all in Ortigia and less expensive. Thank you.

I haven't stayed in Gutowski, but I can vouch for Hotel Posta.

Have you looked at the Domus Mariae? It is close to the Gutkowski and I thought it was a lovely little hotel, also on the sea. The front desk manager was one of the most helpful hotel people I've encountered in my travels.

We stayed in the Gutkowski a few years ago and found it to be exactly what we wanted, all the basics, clean and fresh, stylish but not OTT. Our room on the top floor included a lovely little terrace, and breakfast was good - not the Germanic type of meat and cheese buffet, just fruit, homemade baked things and preserves.

tarquin, what does OTT mean? From the context, I'm thinking something about "our taste," but I can't figure out the other "t." Thanks.

over the top, common usage in the UK

I meant that it is not opulent.
