Hi there -

Having some challenges booking a room for 4 nights in Venice this October (traveling solo for < 125E a night) and still trying.

I am confirmed at Hotel Guerrato (checked to see if a Rick Steve's tour is there at that time -- doesn't look like it) for a single room, without bath, 95E (85E cash). I'd love to have a private bath, but this is a good price, and I've heard good things about Hotel Gurerrato -- does anyone have thoughts/experience on this?

As an aside, I tried www.casamartini.com as I read wonderful things and they only offered a double, single occupancy for 145E -- the high end of the double price published! Ahh well... can't blame 'em for wanting to make a buck. La Calcina said they had availability for a single, but by the time I confirmed (same day!) it was gone.

It's definitely within your price range and conveniently located at the San Toma vaporetto stop. There's also a traghetto at San Toma that you can take to cross the Grand Canal.

I've not stayed at the hotel for 95 euro. But I find that seems expensive for a room without bath.

I stayed there in a double w/o bath and I would highly recommend it. I don't usually do this, but I was having a hard time finding something in Venice at that time in my price range. I never saw another sole using the bathroom, which was not far from the room. I loved the location of this hotel and the staff is wonderful. Cute little breakfast room with good food. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I have stayed at Hotel Guerrato every time I have been in Venice and just love it. I have always stayed in a room with a bath, but one time I needed to use the bathroom "down the hall" as we had already checked out of our room and it was immaculate..it appears that they clean it periodically through the day. Hope this helps!

I don't have any experience with Hotel Guerrato, and I've not been to Venice in six years.

I've booked Locanda Silva for myself at 70 euros a night with private bath.

I checked TripAdvisor for reviews for Guerrato and I see these comments in the forum:

I don't see the hotel listed on Venere.

I too love this hotel (actually prefer it to La Calcina). Not sure if you have priced it with a bath... but that's what we had. I'd pay a little more - but not a lot more. It's in a perfect location (central but quiet). And the restaurant they recommended was a great buy and a great find. Enjoy.

Stayed at the Hotel Marin a couple of years ago and thought it was a good value at around $85 USD for a double with bath and breakfast. It is now on the internet as the Albergo Marin. It is across the canal from the train station and an easy walk with luggage.

Altheain-there is NO WAY I'd pay 85/95E for a single w/o bath in VCE-waaaay overpriced-you can do better than that. Just because you're a tourist, doesn't mean you have to wear a sign that says "scam me Italians-I'm a tourist"-do some more research on venere.com, and look up the suggestions here on this post and other posts on this board-I think they're all good ones, for the most part. There is no reason for you not to get a comfortable room, for that rate, in a 3 star with ensuite bath.

I'm paying 90E for a two-bedroom apt., large kitchen airy, bright, a/c, new bath, very close to the Grand Canal with a great view of one of Venice's most lively areas-just what I wanted. They offered me a great "special offer" of 110E, but I countered with a "special" of my own-90E-and the owners accepted. (not all will though).

Do as the Italians do, and ask for a "sconto" (discount) on anything you purchase-esp. if you can think up some bargaining chip to use as leverage in the transaction- it never hurts to ask!

No SpyGirl, I don't want them to see "TOURIST" in neon on my forehead... but as I'm still pretty green, I guess (sheepishly) I kinda am. But I'm learnin'. ;-)

Also heard back from Casa Martini who has now offered the double, now at 120E, with bath (when I called, they said 145E which I thought was nuts). Not cheap, but it appeals to me as I've read very good things about their hospitality. In the meantime, I'll keep looking.

would you mind letting me how to contact your apt owners? I am desparately looking for an apt or cheap accomodation for 4 in Venice for 2 nights in April.....and your rates are unbelievable....perhaps it is the season...but i am being quoted for 200 euros!
