Hotel Galleria

Dear Tess,
I read your 11/02 reply on the Hotel Galleria. I've been shopping for June 12-14 hotels in Venice. Htl Galleria has offered me a double "only a big twin bedded room with bathroom and full Canal view at 145,00 euro per night, breakfast and taxes included" - hope it is big. What do you think? Did you see other rooms? I also heard from Htl Mercurio today 170.Euros for a double - Is that a better place, anyone? Am waitlisted at Locando Babarigo & for anyone interesed in Accademia, just recvd a reply 270. Euro for a double/suite June 12th! All standard & superior rooms are booked.
Would like feed back on the Htl.Galleria & Mercurio. Grazie!
When I was trying to decide about where to stay in Venice, I asked Hotel Galleria about the size of the double room that was being offered to me, since I think their room sizes vary quite a bit. They graciously replied with the size. It seemed pretty small and I chose to book elsewhere. My recommendation is if you care about room size, ask them to e-mail you the dimensions.

By-the-way, if I remember correctly, the room size was 14 sq.m., (total size including bathroom) which is pretty small for two adults.

ss,

I stayed in the Galleria's single, which as I've mentioned in other posts is VERY small. I did walk by one of the other double rooms while maid was cleaning; it was cozy. Their rooms do vary in size. Frankly, if room size is a high priority, then you may want to look elsewhere. Even w/the shortcomings of the Galleria, I think it's the best value on the Grand Canal. You will be hard-pressed to find another hotel in such a good location (in Dorsoduro siesteri, overlooking the GC and right by a vaparetto stop).

I've read alot of very positive comments on this website about Locando Barbarigo. And another place that you might ask about is place that's also owned by Galleria folk called Casa Rezzicona (sp?). Someone had posted on this forum last month and they'd been booked at Galleria for this coming April; apparently they're planning renovations and so they advised this person they couldn't honor reservation at Galleria, however could offer them accommadations at this other hotel.

ss,
That other thread talking about the Galleria’s sister hotel is:
“Hotel Galleria changes me to Casa Rezzonico - anyone know of it?”

http://www.fodors.com/forums_reg/pgMessages.jsp?fid=2&tid=34396348&numrespo nses=10&start=0&searchText=galleria

I will be staying at the Galleria at the end of the month. I'll post a review when I return.

For Tess and others who are posting URLs re other threads -

I think it's preferable to "chop off the last part of the URL, after the tid number (i.e., "&numresponses=10&start=0&searchT ext=galleria"). The reason being that if there are further replies on the thread, the "numresponses" will change.

http://www.fodors.com/forums_reg/pgM...p;tid=34396348 will continue to pull up the thread you mention, regardless of how many responses it gets. And it's (slightly) shorter!

Ah, thanks Lesli. I'd been copying the entire short cut and didn't realize your abbreviated version was as effective.
