Hotel Foscari Palace in Venice

We are going to Venice in January and am doing my hotel research as we have never been before (i realize I am late doing this but we just decided on the trip) Does anyone have any input on Hotel Foscari Palace? Thanks

I saw very positive reviews on tripadvisor.com (understandably only 2 or 3 since the hotel opened this June) and also many good reviews on venere.com. Did you check them?

After reading the reviews, I booked a superior double confirmed with Grand Canal view, LCD TV, "hidromassage" shower, buffet breakfast etc for 28-30 Nov. The price is EUR160.00 per night (140.00 for campo view & 120.00 for a standard double with no mention of view). Even for the low season, this seems a great deal for a 4-star hotel. The reception staff was courteous and helphul on the phone (i booked direct) and confirmed quickly to my e-mail. I hope i'm not taking a chance. I let go the reservation I had at Leon Bianco (their seemingly the best room at EUR 185.00 with Grand Canal view) for Foscari Palace.

When are you going?

Kappa, would love to know how the Foscari Palace was

damama,

If you click on "kappa" name, it will pull up all threads in which he/she posted .... and in a thread titled "Room Without Canal View in Venice", you'll see positive feedback on their stay at Foscari. Or you could click here (link to that same thread) >>> http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34545687

Thanks JBX. I probably knew that but my brain is so crammed with planning for my trip I forgot that little trip. Oh to be rich and just say to a TA, get me the best hotel, in the best location in....
Oh well, that takes the fun(?) out of planning.

Hi damama, if you have particular questions regarding Foscari Palace other than what I posted on the thread whose URL JBX kindly provided, I would be happy to answer.

Kappa, thanks for the offer. I do have a few other questions. How far is the hotel from the vaporetto stop? Also, are the rooms better looking than the pictures on Venere? They don't look like a brand new place.

damama, the photo on venere.com must be a standard (venere calls it classic) double room. It does not look bad but our room, a corner – superior double had more vivid colors with nicer furniture and curtains of venetian (I suppose) fabric. Go to the following page.
http://foscari.hotelinvenice.com/main_en.htm?source=
The bottom right was our room. I thought it looked kind of narrow in the photo but actually that was not a problem. The real room was better than this photo. It was beautiful and clean, and did look still quite new. The bed cover was more yellowish and went well with the yellow/green curtain. The ceiling seemed quite high. I would have preferred a darker color for the wardrobe but that’s not a big deal. (sorry, perhaps you don’t need these details.) It had altogether 3 windows + 1 in the bathroom. The building you see in the open window is part of the fish market building across the Grand Canal. Campo San Sofia where the hotel is located has a traghetto stop so you can get to the fish market side easily for 40 euro cents. You can also see the photo of their rooftop terrace that gives you a fabulous 360 degree view of Venetian roofs and the Grand Canal.

Ca’ d’Oro vaporetto stop is a minute or two walk away. Also Rialto bridge is 5 minute leisurely walk.

I did not use hotel booking sites. I called the hotel first to ask for availability and reserved by e-mail. No problem. They confirmed quickly on the same day.

If you have more questions, don't hesitate and post.

thanks Kappa, that helps a lot. Sooo many choices, so little time. I would be able to get an additional job if I would get off of Fodors. I didn't take this long to choose a husband (with whom I am celebrating our 30th anniversary with this trip)

damama, there should be other equally good choices but I would not hesitate to recommend Foscari Palace for your 30th anniversary trip. Wherever you will stay, Venice is special. Happy anniversary !
