Hotel Florescente, Lisbon

I booked a reservation with this hotel secured by a credit card 4 days ago and was given the booking number and with a note stating that a confirmation, room details, terms and conditions to follow. To date, have not received any document from the hotel in spite sending emails requesting said info. Did anyone experience same? Should I just go ahead and assume we have a reservation or just place another one with another hotel? Problem is, as mentioned above, the booking was secured by a credit card... I wanted to make sure that if we place a reservation with another hotel, Hotel Florescente will not charge me. Help!!!

Have you checked your spam + junk mail folders? If nothing is there, why don't you call them? This is the height of the holiday season. If it's a small hotel, maybe they are quite busy.

Did you book directly with the hotel or on booking.com?

Email them at Reservations: [email protected]

Or send them a message on twitter: https://twitter.com/resflorescente

Thanks, all. The reservation was for last week of Nov.-early Dec. I placed the reservation directly with the hotel and yes robert2533, I sent the follow up/request for info to geral, as well as to carlosp (the gen. manager) but no answer as of 5 minutes ago, NYC time. Sandralist, nothing on my spam/junk folders, either! Is it really necessary to call then? If this is the kind of service they provide for a simple request, I am concerned on what else will I encounter. A few hours ago, I sent them an email cancelling our reservation and requesting a confirmation of the cancellation. Of course, I did not get the cancellation confirmation, either. Inasmuch as the hotel had a good review, maybe there is a change in management and is not as good?

Will appreciate it if anyone can recommend another hotel comparable to Florescente, around Restauradores and Rossio Squares. Thank you.

I find this story strange. I have stayed at the Florescente several times and never experienced this.

If you have not cancelled your booking yet, direct message me with the booking details on twitter @barlaventoexp and I will call them and have a word with them. (P.S. I live in Portugal and speak Portuguese.)

The OP has cancelled the reservation. Said so in the second post.

It's up to the OP, I think, whether or not they want to follow through on making sure their credit card is not charged. Yes, it is necessary to call any business you are dealing with if e-mail is not producing a response. Presumably the hotel staff understands English. The OP could solve this problem in 5 minutes by making a phone call.

Thank you for the offer barlaventoexpert, I do find it strange also because I've heard positive reviews about the hotel; the only thing I can think of is possible management or owner change. Sandralist, I appreciate your suggestion but allow me to disagree with you. If one emails the manager, general manager and reservation department twice and once to cancel and still did not get a respond after 5 days, what makes you think that calling long distance (from the US) in 5 minutes will solve the problem? Inasmuch as I wanted to stay at said hotel, it's just not worth the hassle. As I said, if they cannot resolve a simple issue of confirming a reservation and/or cancellation, what happens when one encounters a bigger issue?

Again, will appreciate it if anyone can recommend another hotel comparable to Florescente, around Restauradores and Rossio Squares. Thank you.

We loved the Avenida Palace. Great service (they had our room ready at 10a.m. when we arrived, instead of making us wait till 3pm); fabulous breakfast buffet served in an elegant dining room; great location.

PS It is next door to the Rossio Train station.

Tabernash2, thanks... Avenida P. is beautiful but we cannot afford it; our budget is limited to a Florescente.

If the Avenida Palace is close to your range, you might call them and ask for a discount. They are very helpful, and I think Lisbon needs tourists.

nina88,

If I am reading your posts correctly, right now you have a confirmed reservation at the Hotel Florescente. I don't know if you would consider it a "hassle" to call your credit card company about the possible charge to your card. Maybe you could try that if you think it is too much of hassle to call the hotel. But were it me, I would call the hotel and get someone to confirm the cancellation by e-mail. That would be the simplest thing to do, with the greatest guarantee of ending the issue.

Sandralist, appreciate your suggestion, but as I mentioned earlier, I don't believe calling them will solve the problem as I am sure you are aware that the person who answers the phone is usually not the person who can decide or resolve an issue. I did check with the credit company and so far, the hotel did not charge any yet; supposedly charges will be made on the date of check in per the hotel's terms and conditions posted on their website. Checking on the possibility of staying either at Brown's and VIP Eden.
