Hotel Excelsior Paris 17th district
Hi,

I have seen lots of raves for the Excelsior Hotel in the 5th Arondissement, but I have booked into the Excelsior in the 17th, Rue de Caroline which is more expensive with an extra star.

Has anyone else stayed here or know anything about it? I have seen one great review and one horrible review on fodors and now I don't know what to think! I am starting to wish I had booked into the cheaper hotel!

Any help is appreciated thanks.

No help on this one? Leaving in two days!

There are 2 very extremely different comments right here on the Rants/Raves on Fodors.

Forgive me, need more coffee. Didn't absorb within your own note that you had seen those Fodors comments. Didn't find anything else by searcing rec.travel.europe or other websites. Sorry.

I'm not sure if you saw this or not. However, there is a review of your hotel in the Hunter Rivages 3rd edition of "Hotels of Character & Charm in Paris". Hotel Excelsior at 16, rue Caroline in the 17th dist. is given 3 stars. Generally the reviewer liked the hotel but says that the reception area-lounge may not give a good impression. Don't let that discourage you as the rooms are very nice and some overlook the street while others overlook the courtyard.

See if you can avoid Room 502 the guide says as that room is the smallest.

The bathrooms are pretty good and some have windows.

The 17th dist. is not a bad area as it's close to the Arc de Triomphe. The metro is closeby and you'll be very close to the Champs Elysees.

Thanks loads Catherine. This is the last day I have internet access before I go so I am glad there were some responses.

I feel much better having read your reply so I am much more hopeful about avoiding a bed with plastic sheets!
