Hotel Due Torri
 

I am booked into the hotel Due Torri, but saw pictures at http://www.home.earthlink.net/~richardab/Fly/Europe/Rome/Ro_Sleep/Ro_Hotels/FCO_DueTorri.html<BR><BR>and becamed a bit alarmed. It really doesn't look that great, run down and shabby. Am I missing something?

The photos look satisfactory to me. As the author/photographer said, it's not the Hilton.

The pictures on the hotel's website [linked to Richard's page] show the rooms off better I think. This hotel as always been on my list and remains there;)

Ditto, s.fowler. This hotel is definitely not run down and shabby.

It is a small European hotel, nothing fancy. I stay here every time I am in Rome. If you want glitz or glitter, this is not for you. It is just a nice little hotel on a small (very) side street in Rome.

To further the commentary on Hotel Due Torri-there is a sister hotel (same owners) called Hotel Fontanella Borghese also in Rome, a slight bit more money. The websites for the hotels link to each other. I am booked there for Easter week 2002. Has anybody had any experience with it? I was hoping that since it is the same owners, that the hospitality stated by Fodorites about Due Torri is similar. Please advise any positive or negetive experiences, it might help Selma too.

The Due Torri is on a tiny street near Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, in the very charming heart of Old Rome, the historic center. All the people I've guided who have stayed there liked it. Around the corner, on Vicolo della Campana, is La Campana, a traditional trattoria (harder and harder to find in Rome these days) and near Alfredo's (famous fettuccine, but La Campana is much more genuine and Romans eat there more than tourists).<BR><BR>The one couple I guided who stayed at the Fontanella Borghese liked it, but the husband, of normal build, said he could barely turn around in the shower it was so small. The Fontanella Borghese is in a lovely, renovated elevator building and is in a great location, walking distance to Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps and not far from the Due Torri.

We stayed at the Hotel Due Torri last May. We'll probably use it again next time we go to Rome. It was comfortable, the bed was terrific and our bathroom was spacious. It wasn't at all what I'd call shabby. The staff, as stated by the others, are wonderful. The location is ideal. You could pay a lot more for considerably less in Rome.

We stayed at the Fontanella Borghese last May and we thought it was very nice and the location was excellent. We were able to walk to many places and right outside the hotel, about 50 ft. was a little piazza, with bakery, restaurant and other shops. There also is a book market right across the street where they sell old books. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and spoke English quite well. We are going back to Rome this fall and plan on staying here again.
