Hotel du Quai-Voltaire

Hi,

We are considering staying at this hotel in the 7th arrondismont. It's our understanding that the rooms have great views of the Seine and Louvre..is this true? How are the rooms and hotel in general? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dani

Hello Dani:

I have not stayed at this hotel but I have entered it's lobby and rooms and I know people who've stayed there. In general people are not that pleased with the hotel. The rooms are fine, but nothing special (same goes for the service and the lobby). The view is wonderful, but the hotel is on a very busy street (noise can be problematic). I would try to find another hotel. The Hotel des Grandes Hommes in the fifth has rooms with a view of the Pantheon and the Sacre Coeur (in the distance). Ask for a front room with a balcony; they are the same price as the others. I believe the price is around 800FF for a double.

I have not stayed there but copied these comments from this forum into
my travel file
A Fodor's poster in 1998 called this "nothing fancy" but with a superb location, some rooms have a view of the Louvre and the Seine from floor-to-ceiling windows. Spotless. 5 minutes walk east of the Musee d'Orsay, 5 minutes south of the Louvre. Police station nearby provided some disturbing noise, windows not double-glazed. Rooms said to be small and in need of updating.
The thing about recommending hotels, restaurants, etc is that a. we don't know each other and b. a hotel that may be "nothing fancy" but pleasant for one person may be unacceptably spartan or
shabby for someone else.
For more comments you can look
in www.paris.org and
www.hotelboulevard.com as well as on this forum by searching for the hotel by name

In the same area, try the Hotel Left Bank St. Germain, Hotel de Buci and Hotel St. Germain (rue Bonaparte)...
I have often suggested the Voltaire as a an above average hotel when people request a great view, central location and fair price...it is the ONLY hotel in Paris on the river, double-glazed windows eliminates most noise and the river boats cruising the Seine in the forefront of the Louvre is charming and wonderful. However, if this is not what you are looking for, look elsewhere. It is all in where you place your priorities.
Bonne Chance~
Wendy
