Hotel du Musee or Hotel Le Calendal???

We can book at either hotel. The prices are roughly the same, however at Le Calendal they no longer have rooms with A/C. We'll be staying there 5 nights in July. Help Fodorites! Do I really need the A/C? Le Calendal seems to have lots of recommendations on this site, none about Hotel Musee, got that from Rick Steves book. Sorry I'm rambling, just give me your ideas, please and thanks.

I'm not sure where you're going. I can only assume that it's in Arles because my wife and I stayed at Le Calendal. Very pretty ("tres jolli (sp?)" according to a restaurant maitre'd where we had dinner one night), very good location, very Provencal in decor and design, small room but sufficient for the two of us, comfortable bed, no A/C, good view of the streets, but that was in September - hence, not that hot. We had a ground floor roo, if I recall correctly.

If you're post didn't refer to Arles, then, I feel like a jerk, and hopefully, somebody else can make use of these information.

Sorry, don't know about Hotel Musee.

Sorry, should have stated it was Arles. We're torn because everyone and his brother seems to have stayed at Calendal, no one has recommended Hotel du Musee, but I love my A/C when it's in the 90's. Last summer was a sizzler, but who knows.

Jeri -

If you type "hotel AND musee AND arles" into the text box, you will ull up two threads here. Granted, they are from 2000, but they are postitive.

You also might find feedback on venere.com and/or tripadvisor. Le Calendal is lovely, but Hotel du Musee looks equally nice, and for 5 nights in July, I would want the a/c.

Message: We stayed at Hotel du Musee in 2000, and loved it. No "new section" at that time. The owners, Reine and Bernard Dumeuil, are wonderful people and very helpful.

The old part of the hotel was built in the 1600s, but some bits including our bathroom date from the late 1400s!

By the way, a great restaurant recommendation per the hotel was Restaurant L?Escaladou for outstanding bouillabaisse and a really garlicky rouille.
