Hotel Dona Maria
 

We are making our first trip to Andalusia, and plan to stay in Seville for three days. Can anybody give me any reference on Hotel Dona Maria?

We stayed there in Oct. 2000. I did not like it nearly as well as Los Seises where we stayed on a previous trip to Seville. Both are centrally located in the area by the cathedral and the Barrio de Santa Cruz. Dona Maria is a little easier to find being almost on the cathedral square area but it's darker (hallways, rooms, public areas, etc) and a bit dreary in comparison to the more stylish, historic but modernized Los Seises. They have comparable prices. Both have rooftop pools. Los Seises just has more style and flair and larger rooms. I liked it better.

I have checked both hotels' websites and there is a considerable difference in their rates, 120 euros for Dona Maria and 180 euros for Los Sieses (doble rooms).<BR><BR>Despite the dark alleys and rooms how was the quality of service and the cleanliness of rooms and bath in Dona Maria?

The Dona Maria was clean enough. Just kind of dreary due to its heavy use of dark wood and low lighting. It was late in the season but the pool area was kind of unkempt, not dirty, just not as cared for or orderly as it should have been. It would be nice if someone else who's stayed there would respond for you so you could get a few more impressions.

Edgar:<BR><BR>We stayed at the Dona Maria a couple of years ago and loved it! I don't remember it being dark or dreary. To me it was more like staying in a friend's or relative's villa. Had the feeling of a large home with marble stairs, etc. We had a lovely room (with the exception of view), it was very large, had ample closets (unusual for Europe) and a great bathroom. We did peek in a few of the other rooms while maids were cleaning and they were quite small, so perhaps we were just lucky, getting the room we had.<BR><BR>The breakfast room was not the greatest, but good enough to grab a bite and be on our way for the day.<BR><BR>Staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and arranged an evening at a nearby Tablao fot us. Also a day trip to Jerez de la Frontera. <BR><BR>The location couldn't be better. We loved the Santa Cruz districct and the hotel's proximity to the cathedral, alcazar, etc.<BR><BR>If I can help further don't hesitate to e-mail me. We also stayed at Dona Maria and enjoyed it. Hotel lobby features wrought iron, dark woods and red furnishings but outside of this, I don't recall anything dark or dreary about the place. Perhaps there are more stylish or modern hotels nearby, but we found Dona Maria to be a very good value for our travel dollar. Location is superb with wonderful view of La Giralda, particularly at night.
