Hotel des Grands Hommes (Paris)

Hi, has anyone stayed at Hotel des Grands Hommes recently? I would like to know if the superior rooms are as nice as the website shows, the staff if they are helpful, and finally its location-any shops and restaurants closeby; it's in the 5th district but it's a bit away from the Seine.

Thanks.

Hi,

I believe that there was a review of this hotel recently.

Try searching in the "search this forum" box.

Have you looked it up at www.tripadvisor.com?

The most recent comments that I could find here is dated 8/15/04. Yes, I saw the tripadvisor.com comments-seems to be mixed.

Still checking on others too. Thanks.

We stayed there in April, top floor with a balcony. There was a small sitting room and a large bathroom along with the bedroom. The bedroom and the bathroom both had "French" doors that led out to the balcony where we sat with our wine in the evening. It was beautiful yet comfortable and warm, staff were excellent helping us with directions to sites and suggesting restaurants. We did walk to the Seine--probably 8-10 blocks, but not a bad walk. Sunday morning we walked to the open air market a couple of blocks over. We always ate near the hotel because there were so many great restaurants within walking distance. Metro was just two blocks away. I would stay there in a heart beat again! I loved it.

Thanks Lucyandricky! Your balcony room, was that a superior room facing the Pantheon? Anyway, my friend says that he believes he's walked past both Grands Hommes and its sister hotel, du Pantheon next door. He says they look nice on the exterior and the area is very nice as pl. de Contrescarpe is nearby with restaurants and shops.

Well, a lot can change in a month. :)

Well, yeah, it can change in a day even-hey!

The room we had was a superior room and did face the Pantheon. It was so romantic and quaint. We didn't walk into the hotel next door, but it did look like a very nice one too. The neighborhood behind it was especially wonderful with small shops and restaurants. I've been to Paris several times now and this hotel is on the top of my list.

Hi lucyandricky, thanks again. The hotel says it will guarantee a superior room that has a Pantheon view, but not a balcony room unless there's availability. I was thinking of booking the Hotel de Lutece but have changed my mind.
