Hotel des Arenes

Is anybody familiar with the Hotel des Arenes in Paris? It was recommended by the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles as they were full, but I haven't found any reviews of the hotel online. Their rates seem awfully reasonable for a three star hotel, which makes me suspicious!!

Thanks!

A couple of reviews on tripadvisor, including a recommendation from Frommers. (Which I found by typing "review hotel des arenes paris" into google.com, BTW)

Thanks for your help. Still havn't found any personal reviews on the hotel though. At 78 Euros for a double, it makes me wonder, but maybe it's the best kept secret in town!

Here's a comment from last June on Fodors: (Jill) Hotel des Arenes on rue Monge is in the 5th district. I had large double bed, nice sized bathroom, cable tv (CNN International so I could catch up on news if I wanted to). Good luck I wish I was going back soon.

I also found this thread intriguing: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34372058

I haven't stayed in it but have been by it and it looks nice enough from the outside. I imagine Grandes Ecoles recommended it because there are only a couple hotels very near them, and that is one of them (Hotel Monge and Residence Christophe are the other two). They probably are going by the theory that you want to stay in that specific area, and just aren't recommending hotels all over Paris.

That isn't the most popular tourist location in Paris, that's probably why it is reasonable. Also, Arenes doesn't seem to advertise a lot or be in a lot of the usual guidebooks, so that's another reason.

Thanks for the replies! That was an intriguing post, which I've followed up on. It does seem as if the hotel is pretty low-key in the advertising department.
