We stayed in the Hotel Minerva in Sorrento in 2001. Unforgetable sea view. Ask for a balcony sea view when making reservations. Staff friendly and speaks some Eng. Fax081-878-1949. About $120 Sept. 2001. Includes breakfast. Pool is on the 5th floor with a spectacular view also. Highly recommended.

Go with the Parlamento in Rome. Close to via del Corso, you'll love it!

Loved Hotel Minerva - outstanding views, nice size rooms, very friendly.

regarding the Parlamento
I haven't stayed there, but it was highly recommended in a recent article in National Geographic Traveler.
They did mention that the street can be very noisy, and a room facing the courtyard was a recommended choice
