hotel decisions for Rome, Florence, Venice

We would like some feedback on hotels in these areas. Location is very important to us. Rome - either Majestic or Excelsior. Florence - either Savoy, Helvetia in Bristol area or Lungarno. Venice - either Luna Baglione or Bauer Il Palazzo. We got some good deals and there is not that much of a price differential with the exception of Lungarno. Since it is our 30th wedding anniversary, we are treating ourselves. Would appreciate your comments.

There are three leading resources you should check, and with seven hotels listed in your post, I'm not volunteering to look them up here for you on:

1. this forum
2. Fodors Rants'n'Raves (click on "Hotels" above)
3. tripadvisor.com

Of course, you're likely to get some replies here on this query of folks who can speak about one or more of these hotels from experience. And that might be "fresher" info (or it might not.

Still, it won't be as complete as the repository you can compile for yourself from the three sources listed above.

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex - Thanks for the reply. I was on Fodor's "rants and raves" and found the material to be rather dated. I was hoping for some personal feedback. I'll try some other sites.

I can't reply on these particular hotels but wonder if you're open to other suggestions. The worldby.com website have great deals and unsurpassed photos. florenceby.com, veniceby.com,romeby.com. The hotels you've noted may also be on these sites and it's worth it for you to take a look. If they aren't you may be surprised and find someplace wonderful instead. It's also very easy booking.

You're welcome. If nothing else, this will get you "topped" one more time. If you get no replies, I would recommend making three separate posts, one for each city - - and then mention the names of the hotels right in the message header.

Instead of "Rants and Raves", use the search function above. Enter the name of each hotel and you will get feedback. All of these hotels are very high end. I suggest the Lungarno in Florence but can't help you with the others.

Thanks mamc and rex. I appreciate the help because lately I feel like I am on information overload, but then, that is my fault for using this site, right? Ha

In Florence, the Lungarno is by far the best, ask for a room on the river. It is so much fun to watch the River! It is a vv nice hotel without being stuffy. Great location, we walked everywhere with no trouble.

Thanks Betsys but unfortuantely, the Lungarno is sold out during our stay so I think we are leaning either toward the Helvetia or Savoy.
