Hotel de Vendome Paris

I have been quoted a rate of 310E for a double room at Hotel de Vendome for a new years trip to Paris. Can anyone comment on whether this is a true 4-star hotel in terms of comfort, decor and service? This would be a splurge for us and I am trying to get a sense of whether it would be worth the extra E's. Merci!

The hotel california is supposed to take 50% off its rack rate for Entertainment card holders (www.entertainment.com). It might be worth looking into if you want to be in a high end hotel on/next to the Champs Elysées. I haven't been able to afford being there so can't tell you what its like.

Have you looked at the website for Small Luxury Hotels, of which the Vendome is a member? The room sizes and descriptions are available, along with photos.

I would guess that the higher end rooms and suites might be worth it, but the photo of the simplest room didn't look great to me.

What's that hotel's address? We stayed a couple days at a place with a name like that and it was strictly stinko.

The address is 1 Place Vendome. Thanks.

Sorry, can't help you. Ours was over on the Right Bank. Your 1 Place Vendome address is swank, very near the Ritz.

Meant to say Left Bank, near the Sorbonne.

Thanks anyway. I think we've decided to stay with the 3-star on the left bank we were considering and spend the difference in euros on some nice meals! Serena

I'm curious...which hotel on the Left Bank did you choose?

The Hotel Verneuil, which looks like a nice small left-bank place in the 7th on the border of the 6th arrondissment, although we haven't stayed there before. I understand the standard rooms are small so we booked a deluxe but the rate was still more reasonable than other places I investigated. A close second was the Madison Hotel, which also seems nice, if you like a left bank 6th arrond. location. And, finally, I can personnlay vouch for the Hotel Artus (formerly called Buci) which we stayed in last spring. We loved the location, the rooms (although small) and most of all the very helpful staff. (I left something in a store the night before we left and they went and got it and are holding it for pick-up on our return. I thought that was nice.) It's not everyone's cup of tea though as it's quite modern. Cheers.

Serenahr, I love the Verneuil. You're right, the standard rooms are small-tiny actually. Deluxe rooms are lots roomier although not huge. Nicely decorated rooms and public areas. But the elevator begins on the 1st floor (one floor upstairs from the lobby) so you have to deal with carrying your luggage upstairs and downstairs.

Thanks Francophile, I am looking forward to our visit. Since you have stayed in the neighborhood, do you have any favorite restaurants or cafes? We love to try new places.

You've made a good hotel choice, serenahr, and on a nice quiet street that's at the same time very centrally located.

FYI, to the left of the hotel as you exit and across the street you can see a wall with tons of graffiti on it; this is not an indication that it's a bad neighborhood, but a tribute to the late music star Serge Gainsbourg. It's the house he lived in and fans are still paying homage.
