Maybe we should start a thread on Virtuoso... but to answer your questions:

What is Virtuoso? Virtuoso is a consortium of travel agents specializing in luxury travel. With the clout of about $3 billion in annual sales, Virtuoso negotiates rates and amenities with luxury hotels and resorts around the world (more than 740 properties at the present time). Typically those rates are equal to or lower than anything you can find online. Many properties offer the Virtuoso amenities at the BAR. The standard amenities include complimentary daily breakfast for two and upgrades if available. (Some hotels upgrade at time of booking). There are also extra amenities that differ by property. In the case of the IC Paris LeGrand (which began this thread), the extra amenity is Club access. Sometimes the extra amenity is substantial (free dinners, free limousine transfers, etc.), sometimes not.

[Virtuoso is very similar to American Express FHR but doesn't require spending $450 annually to get an AMEX Platinum card].

Where am I getting these quotes? There is a password-protected website to which Virtuoso travel agents have access. If you have access to a GDS, you might try plugging in the rate code "API" and see if you can access the Virtuoso rates.

What is a Virtuoso agent? A travel consultant who is affiliated with an agency that is a member of Virtuoso.

What is a personalized welcome? Depends on what the hotel thinks that means. In some properties, a Virtuoso client will be personally greeted by a hotel manager... See "extra amenity ... less substantial" above

Travel Horizons,

Are there other hotels in Eze, St Paul de Vence or St. Jean that you would recommend that are within walking distance of town/ villages for restaurants that are "virtouso" properties.

Let me know and thanks

Here is the list of Virtuoso properties in that general area:

Cap Estel, Eze
Chateau de la Chevre d'Or, Eze
Le Cheau du Domaine St. Martin, Vence
Chateau Eza, Eze Village
Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, St. Jean Cap Ferrat
Hotel Le Saint Paul, Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Hotel Royal Riviera, St. Jean Cap Ferrat

Beyond providing the list, I hope you'll agree this thread is really not an ideal way to carry on a detailed discussion of the location, rates, and amenities of seven different properties Too much information to convey and too little space!
