Hotel de la Sorbonne or Hotel Monge
I was just quoted a price from both of these. Hotel Monge is 96 euros for a double with a shower/street view. And Hotel de la Sorbonne is 80 euros for a double with a shower.
Is it worth the extra 16 euro per night to stay at Hotel Monge? We are honestly looking for a place to sleep in, and not get mugged on the way back. We plan on spending at least a day or so just sitting and sipping cafe in the gardens.
What are your opinions? We don't need anything fancy. We used to stay in Hotel Alison until their rates went up way to high in my opinion. So we need a new place. We are staying for 3 nights and have never stayed in the Latin Quarter.
Thanks so much! You all are very knowledgeable

It's hard to say as I don't know your standards from Hotel Alison, and I haven't stayed at the Monge. I know where it is though and it sounds like you should choose the Sorbonne as you don't care about hotels much at all. If you did, I think you'd find out more about the different rooms in size or something.
Also, the Sorbonne is more convenient to hanging out in gardens. Neither is high in mugging potential, that's for sure.

I think you would be very safe in either location. If you take the Sorbonne, and save 16 E per night, you'll have an extra 48E to put toward a nice dinner or to purchase something special to remember your trip by.

eric, it has been ten years since we stayed at the Hotel de la Sorbonne but the location is great and we had a garret room that made me feel I was in the real artistic Left Bank of Paris. As I recall we had to share a bathroom with another room of my sister and her husband. I would confirm that you will have both a private toilet and shower if that is what you are expecting. We haven't gone back only because we always like to try different hotels in the 5th or 6th arr. I would recommend the Sorbonne for it's rate and location. Have a great trip. Deborah
