Sigh....I would love to stay at the Crillon. Or know someone who has. Pariswoman, I am really jealous - happy anniversary.
|
I have actually stayed at the Crillon twice, the last time in 1999. My sister, Jennifer, stayed in a suite for 14 days for her honeymoon. The hotel bill was $35,000.
My dear friend, the Countess de Billy, had made a comment that the service has changed at the hotel recently when her daughter (Christina, an editor at French Vogue) put up client there. The service, I was told, was more "American," meaning that it was more "smiley-smiley" and "friendly" than formal and reserved. I HATE staff who try to be your best friend. EWWWW! GET AWAY! It is still luxurious, however, sweetie darling. Have fun in Paris. Ignore Cimbrone as he is a low-rent Mary. Love you, hate your shoes. |
I'll take smiley or snooty anyday.
|
I'm not sure I agree with the wanting to know someone who had part given the earlier parts of this thread.
I suspect someone could characterize it as a bunch of pots denying their own shades of periodic blackness abilities. |
Glad you're back, mm. And with your same inimitable sense of humor!
|
Dukey re: your 10:28 post...huh? Edit, my friend, edit.
|
Marginal Margiela,
We have a lot of snooty hotels in the U.S. We don't stay in them, we like friendly. One of our best places we have ever stayed was on a duck farm in France. It was wonderful And the owners were friendly. To each their own. |
Parisgirl - if you don't care for the answers fellow fodorites are giving you then I suggest YOU do your own research. You're an ungrateful, spoiled child.
|
As I recommended on another thread, the Luxury Hotels forum at FlyerTalk has at least several people who remain au courant with all aspects of the Paris luxury hotel scene, and can probably comment on the Crillon changes.
Given the Starwood angle, the original poster might also want to check out the Starwood forum on FlyerTalk and post an inquiry there. |
This all got rather funny! (and talk about "off on tagents" (:>)
As far as I can see, all pariswoman asked was a SIMPLE question: "Could anyone comment IF they had stayed at the Crillon in the LAST SIX MONTHS! I don't think anyone out of 48 postings answered what she asked. Why the ruffled feathers? Go and have a great time on your anniversary.....sounds fun to me! |
>..there is something wrong with a person who worries if their palace hotel of choice might not be up to her standards..<
I should think that that is just where one would be most concerned about maintenance of standards. If your 150E/nite hotel doesn't live up to expectations, you've lost a little. If your 1500E/nite hotel has gone downhill, you've lost a lot. ((I)) Who wishes he could help the OP. |
Cimbrone, we definitely ned to have that dirnk at the Keller.
To edit it for your erudite cognition... a bunch of (periodically pompous) pots calling the kettle black. |
DUH..sounds as if I've had one drink too many already LOL!
|
Oh my, Dukey! Keller's reminds me of my days at Tacky's, too many years ago. Just when I've been looking for someplace where I could wear my riot police uniform! Dear partner would be scandalized. Perhaps I can work the "let's just go see what it's like/we can remain ironically detached" angle, and get him interested. Or else there may need to be a solo trip sometime in the future:)

Listen, you fashion-challenged potato, where oh where did I write that the Crillon was snooty? Reserved and formal is not snooty. Let me tell you and the sad, pathetic world you live in that rich people won't put up with snooty. The Duchess of Bedford is hardly going to allow a bellman to sneer. Americans on expense accounts paid for by their employers may put up with that behavior, but not the super-rich.
I'd like to see butler at the Crillon even look Ivana Trump in the eye. Love you, hate your Payless sandals. Thinny |
