Hotel Continental or Jolanda in Santa Margherita

We have reservations at the Hotel Continental in Sept. but have read some good posts about the Jolanda and they do have availability. The Continental is about $50 more per night and the rooms we have are seaview. The Jolanda sounds charming and would like to know about friendliness and service comparisons from anyone who has stayed at either. Also, is either in a better location for walking in the town. We are staying here as a base for visiting the Cinque Terre and Portofina. Any information comparing the two would be greatly appreciated as we will be spending 4 days there. Thanks!

We stayed at the Continental and absolutely loved it. Top floor room, cute, though not very big, with a sea view - which was stunning. The "beach" is mde up for rocks - large flat ones on which they lay out deck chairs basking in the sun. I highly recommend the Continental though I have no info about Jolanda. It was the perfect base for us as well - btw the Cinque Terre and Portofino. Enjoy!

We were there last year and did not stay in either hotel but I know where they are and would recommend the Continental. You get a view and the view is spectacular. Two good restaurants are Trattoria Biacin and Emilios. We had the most fabulous food in Santa Margherita!

We stayed at Hotel Continental last May because of a recommendation from a co-worker who had stayed there the yr. before for 2 weeks. It was wonderful - one of the highlights of our trip. Our room faced the water with a walkout balcony - the gardens were beautiful and it was a short walk into town.
We felt like we were "the rich and famous" for $130 a night.
Husband and I stayed at the Jolanda, thanks to a recommendation by Bob the Navigator. Nice hotel, good breakfast, no view. If the view is worth $50/night to you, go for the Continental. Both have gotten good reviews on this board.

Another vote for the Continental-a view to die for-lovely grounds, great breakfast buffet, 5 minute walk to train station (to get to the CT) and town. Ask for a corner room on floor 2. e stayed on the 3rd floor but had to share a balcony and the hum of the lit hotel sign at night was a bit disconcerting. Our favorite restaurant was Il Nostromo-so good we ate there twice! You will love the Continental(it's worth the extra $50-why stay on the sea and not have a view?) and SML as a base for the CT. Be sure to visit the charming town of Camogli (1 stop north of SM on the train. Had the best gelato of our trip there. Have fun!~
