hotel condotti or hotel modigliani in rome?
 

hi all,

this will be my first time to rome. looking for a place central, convenient and clean. i've shortlisted these 2 hotels in the spanish steps area, which would be more ideal?

hotel modigliani costs 37 euros more per night though! is it worth paying extra?

also, how can i get to these hotels from FCO airport? will be flying in from london.

It's been a few years since I stayed at the Condotti, but I would stay there again without any qualms. It is very well located , a block from the piazza and the metro station. There is an escalator in the metro station that will take you right up to the exit for Villa Borghese, Ther are lots of cafes and service in the area. We walked to most of the sites.Thehotel was clean, had a good breakfast and the staff was pleasant

IMO, the Condotti is more conveniently located. Via Mario de' Fiori is a narrow, lovely street but it tends to be busy with shoppers. I prefer via Margutta. Both hotels offer charm. The rooms at the Condotti can be quite small but they do have one room with a terrace. That would be the room for me. Marco and Giulia, owners of the Modigliani, have a very good reputation but their website is ugly for a boutique hotel in Rome and I prefer the color palate of the Condotti. Both hotels are accessible by taxi or private car service. If the service is offered (which it is), I ask the hotel to arrange for private pick-up.

I have stayed at neither hotel, but I prefer the location of the Hotel Modigliani. The Via Purificazione is much quieter than the Via Mario de' Fiori which is right in the center of the luxury shopping scene (and hordes of gaping tourists eyeballing the windows of Prada, Lush, and Louis Vuitton).

The Via Margutta is a very quiet, beautiful street. There is a drinking fountain located on this street and I always enjoy taking a sip of water from "le bec fin." I noticed that there were at least two hotels on this street.

Gregory Peck lived on the Via Margutta in "Roman Holiday."

Keith and I just returned from Rome; we stayed at the St. Regis Grand. Its location is not too far of a walk from the Modigliani so we would travel past this hotel on our way to the Borghese Gardens. It looked like a cute, quiet hotel.
