Hotel Concordia, Venice
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Concordia in Venice overlooking St. Mark's square? If so what is the hotel like?

Stay there in 1967. Hopefully it has been renovated since. Glad to see that it is still around. Very central location since I believe that has not changed. Can't be of more help.

Stayed there a couple of times several years ago but took a look at it two years ago. It was renovated and is now air conditioned and has sound reducing windows installed. Probably the best location in Venice for a mid-priced hotel, you are right on the square, and convenient to the vaporetto

I stayed there last year. The room we were in was very small but nice. I remember it to be pretty expensive, even for Venice and I am not sure it was worth what we paid. We were right over a cafe on San Marcos and that was a little noisy as they prepared to open in the morning so you might ask for a room on one of the upper floors. Also it is right next to the basilica so the bells are very noisy.

I stayed here in 1999 and disliked it. Firstly, you might want to be NEAR the Paizza, but not ON the Piazza. The room was exceptionally small (vs. "Europe small") and needed renovating. My only window opened on to an alley and at night I could hear 100 pigeons cooing on the window sill. There is a cafe below and it was noisy all day. And those +@#$% bells!
It wasn't expensive, but at $160 per night, it was too expensive for what was presented. The room should be converted into a coat closet. Three days later I went to Rome and for $165 per night had a room (single) at the DeLa Ville Intercontinental that was marvelous, spacious, with a balcony. The bathroom in Rome was larger than the room in Venice. The immediate comparison made me even more angry about the Concordia.

My advice in Venice: back away from the Piazza. Go see it and then get away from it. It's a zoo. Pay a bit more and upgrade to one of the nicer properties, or for the same I paid, stay elsewhere (i.e. Pensione Accademia, etc.), but I would thumbs down la Concordia.
