hotel closest to Charles e Gaulle airport in Paris for 1 night

Hi,
I need to overnight in Paris for 1 night, and I dont know with hotel to pick,is there one close to the airport that will offer a free shuttle.

PalQ Sep 11th, 2006 07:07 AM

Several - check www.accorhotels.com for their several properties of varying expensive that are on the airport periphery and have free shuttles.
I believe terminal 2 has a Hilton Hotel right in the airport.

lemidi Sep 11th, 2006 08:04 AM

The hotel located directly in teminal 2 is the Sheraton. Stayed there one night in June using Starwood points. Very convenient but if I had paid the 295euros plus I would have been disappointed. The hotel is very dark and a bit dreary, not in comfort or quality but in ambience.
At the end of our trip in July we stayed one night at the Courtyard Marriott CDG which was much nicer and offers great rates but about a 10 minute ride. Has a shuttle which is only about 5euros tacked on to your room bill at checkout. This hotel is situated in the hotel zone of Roissy with numerous other hotels along a strip (two Holiday Inns, Ibis, Millenium etc...). Best reason to stay here is if you have time you can walk across the street through a park into the charming village of Roissy en France.

As Lemidi says, the Sheraton is a great place to stay. they have a free shuttle to the terminals and the RER is within walking distance for a quick trip into Paris for dinner.

ozres Sep 11th, 2006 08:23 AM

Stayed at the Ibis several years ago. Great location and price for a very basic hotel. Free shuttle to your airline, too.

try www.priceline.com.

i bid $65 or $70 dollars and got the hilton. it was great, and next to the ibis . we walked to our terminal, and there was a shuttle to the others.

lincasanova Sep 11th, 2006 09:05 AM

forgot to add.. only bid 4 stars at cdg. on priceline.

b_in_d Sep 11th, 2006 09:17 AM

lincasanova what was your impression of the CDG Hilton? I'm staying there my last night. I also got it on Priceline.

rkkwan Sep 11th, 2006 09:23 AM

I just stayed at the CDG Hilton last week. Great hotel, and $100 (yes, $95-100 seems to be the going rate now) on PL is a steal. Shuttle to Terminal 1 & 2. Terminal 3 and the T1/3 RER should be walkable.

Only thing is that late in the evening, the shuttle isn't that frequent. I may have just missed one, but I waited close to 20 minutes, which is their stated frequency.

The hotel itself is great. Nice room, nice pool. Bar and restaurant are expensive, however.

b_in_d Sep 11th, 2006 09:34 AM

Thanks! I was happy to get it on Priceline for $95, because one of my favorite travel movies takes place there. Jet Lag.

kerouac Sep 11th, 2006 10:22 AM

In terms of the lowest possible prices with a shuttle, you have the Formule 1 (Accor), the Première Classe (Louvre Hôtels), and the Etap (Accor), all for less than 35 euros. Actually, I don't know if the Première Classe has a shuttle (but it probably does since Louvre Hôtels has 3 or 4 hotels at CDG), but since it is right next to the Formule 1 and the Etap, it should be no problem.

Meanwhile, you can sleep in Paris and take the RER B (8.10 euros) in 30 minutes to CDG....

liana Sep 11th, 2006 10:54 AM

Thank you all,as always you get your answer in here,I had been to Paris a few times, but never at the airport.
I am going to start inquiring for prices,I think it looks like the Hilton or the Sheraton,

rkkwan Sep 11th, 2006 11:12 AM

liana - The Hilton and Sheraton consistently wants ~250 Euro ($300) for a room. That's why many of us use Priceline for 4* CDG.

lincasanova Sep 11th, 2006 01:21 PM

the beds at the hilton are unreal.. impossible not to get a good night's sleep!

bridonohue Sep 20th, 2006 06:15 AM

anyone get a room at the sheraton on priceline? i need two rooms because i will be traveling with my wife and two very young children. the sheraton seems to be ideal since we will be flying in, taking the train into and out of paris for dinner, then flying out early the next morning (all flights from terminal 2). right now with published rates the Hilton would cost me $256 and the Sheraton would be $624. Trying to decide if $368 difference is worth the convienence of avoiding the shuttles and walking with kids and a bunch of luggage. For less than the Sheraton I could stay downtown and take a taxi both ways for less.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 06:35 AM

There had been reports of getting the Sheraton in the past on biddingfortravel. I got the Hilton recently, and since then two others have reported getting the Sofitel.

But we're talking about $100/room here, not $300. It's entirely up to you whether taking a shuttle is worth the $300+.

bridonohue Sep 20th, 2006 06:58 AM

thanks rkkwan. i have posted this as a new topic since i strayed from the original post. i will check out the site you recommended.

lemidi Sep 20th, 2006 07:33 AM

If the price difference is within your budget definitely take the Sheraton. The huge advantage even above the convenience of walking to your hotel to and from your flight is that the hotel is two stories above the rail station. And if the price difference is outside of your budget would you not consider getting one room with a king bed and a rollaway? Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 very young kids.
When you want to run into Paris for dinner or a quick visit you simply go down two levels below the hotel either by escalator or elevator and there is the RER right into Paris. All without ever having gone outside. Very convenient with kids.
I was at the Sheraton in June with my 3 kids and we did the same thing. Checked into the hotel and after relaxing and freshening up we went into Paris for a couple of hours. The next morning we had an early train right from the same terminal. Very easy.

hopscotch Sep 20th, 2006 07:53 AM

Count me as another satisfied Sheraton guest for an overnight connection in Paris. I had already reserved a room in the 6th but I passed the Sheraton as I was walking from CDG baggage claim to the RER. The price was about the same so I had the Sheraton cancel the other hotel for me. After checking in I took the RER to the city, had dinner and a walk around, and then back to the hotel. Up and out in the morning, I walked down the hall to the Air France check-in counter.

Dukey Sep 20th, 2006 07:56 AM

The Hilton is across the parking lot from the RER CDG-1 station and technically that's one stop closer to Paris than CDG-2!!!!

I just reserved the Hilton for July 2007(didn't use Hotwire of priceline for a variety of reasons not relevant here) and the cheapest rate was almost 200 Euro per night.

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 07:59 AM

Good point by Dukey. That means for the Hilton, you only need to ride the shuttle twice between terminal and hotel. No need to shuttle for train rides to/from Paris.

And from my experience, I waited about 15 minutes for their shuttle from CDG2 to hotel at 10:15p on a Saturday night. No wait to get to the terminal next morning.

bridonohue Sep 20th, 2006 08:43 AM

thanks for all the information so far. hotwire is advertising a price of $89 per night per room for a 4* which i assume is the hilton. That would bring the price difference to over $400.

Christina Sep 20th, 2006 09:12 AM

I stayed at the Hilton one night, being comped from an airline for a flight cancellation. It was a great hotel, absolutely huge room with bathroom with both tub and shower, everything very comfortable. I did take a shuttle to the station, but that was partly because of the airline providing one, as many guests were there.

I've only seen the outside of the Sheraton, and know its location above the rail station. Yes, I suppose that is more convenient, especially if you want to take the RER to/from Paris. I'm not familiar with the other RER station, though, which is near the Hilton.

However, given how nice the Hilton was, I can't even comprehend paying $400 more to stay at the Sheraton!!! for one night? I don't even understand who would consider doing such a thing, that's insane. You could probably hire a private driver for the night for that amount.

Underhill Sep 20th, 2006 09:42 AM

I recently saw a post on the tripadvisor.com forum to the effect that it's quite a long walk from the Sheraton to the air terminal, for whatever that's worth.

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 09:57 AM

Underhill - I wouldn't believe most things said on Tripadvisor. The Sheraton sits on top of the RER/TGV station. If one thinks that's far from the six CDG2 terminals, they shouldn't have gone to Paris.

Underhill Sep 20th, 2006 10:40 AM

The person who posted that message said that it was a long haul with the suitcases. What's the problem with the TripAdvisor site, other than some of the posters in the France forums? There are quite a few locals and people who travel frequently to France from Britain.

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 10:53 AM

Problem is that the reviews are subjective, and we don't know what's the travel experience of those reviewers.

I also read and Tripadvisor reviews, but people need to read them extremely carefully.

As for Sheraton/CDG2 itself, I assume it'll be a longhaul for those who used to get out of the terminal and grab a cab to the hotel. It will not be a longhaul for those who will walk to the RER station and take a train to Paris, and then switch to Metro and finally walk to their hotel.

Underhill Sep 20th, 2006 11:20 AM

But isn't that true of posts in any travel forums?

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 11:38 AM

Underhill - That's true, but here, we can ask the poster questions and look up old posts. There, you know hardly anything about the poster.

And again, use Sheraton as example, just what would one expect then? The Sheraton/RER/TGV sit right smack in the middle of CDG2. Where else can a hotel be placed that can be more convenient? 6 Sheratons at each of CDG2 ABCDE&F? Maybe they should have put moving sidewalks in the terminals, but there's so much stuff that can be improved at CDG2 they might as well tear the whole thing down and start over.

Underhill Sep 20th, 2006 01:36 PM

Why can't you do the same thing on the tripadvisor.com site? I've certainly posted questions. I will say, though, the the TA France forum has more than its share of nasty people.

rkkwan Sep 20th, 2006 01:48 PM

Oh, you mean the forums on Tripadvisor. Sorry, I thought you just mean the reviews. I don't go to that forum, so I have no experience there. I only read and post on the specific hotel's reviews.

BoulderCO Sep 20th, 2006 02:33 PM

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard last week. It was a very short shuttle ride to Terminal 2. Extremely nice hotel - much nicer than any Courtyard I have ever seen. Paid 119 Euros which included a great buffet breakfast.

hopingtotravel Sep 20th, 2006 05:58 PM

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in May 2005. It was nicer than the ones where I've stayed in Oregon, not cheap, but we were tired after a 3 week trip. Nice bar and breakfast.

rafferty Sep 30th, 2006 10:12 AM

What terminal will i arrive in on Delta?
will it be easy to get to the sheraton with luggage? or how do i get to the Hilton to wait for a friend coming in on NW airlines? is there a shuttle outside?
thanks

kerouac Sep 30th, 2006 10:49 AM

Delta arrives in terminal 2. The Sheraton is in terminal 2. Free luggage carts await you at baggage claim.

Sue4 Sep 30th, 2006 12:25 PM

I've also stayed at the Marriott Courtyard several times, and been very pleased each time - it's extremely nice, with a decent restaurant and great breakfast. I didn't realize that you could walk to the village of Roissy from the hotel thru a park. Maybe I'll do that next time.

Dave_in_Paris Oct 2nd, 2006 01:10 PM

Yes, it could be a (relatively) long walk from the CDG Hilton to a flight departure hall in the same terminal, No. 2. Perhaps as much as 15 minutes for a fit person, depending on the departure hall. There are some moving walkways. There also are shuttle buses between the departure halls, though riding those with luggage, and the between-buses wait, lessens the desirability of that option for a person who can walk.

I am back from my trip and I can say that the Hilton was fantastic! At checkin I was given the option to upgrade to an executive room for an additional 60 Euros, which included breakfast and access to the executive lounge. A great upgrade.

The room was huge, the lounge was amazing, with drinks(including really good champagne) and snacks and a computer to surf the internet, and a Concorde on display right out the window.

I had dinner at the hotel, but would recommend against it if you get the upgrade, as they put out some pretty nice finger food in the evening at the lounge. The food at the restaurant was good but wasn't included in the upgrade. Breakfast buffet was pretty good.

The Hilton has a shuttle between the airport and the hotel. It was easy to get to the hotel and back to the airport. They dropped me off right out in front of the BA gates.

Very recommended.
