Hotel city club WARNING

Unsafe Prague Hotel: While in Prague in July 2003 a group of 21 students and three teachers stayed at the Hotel City Club, and all our rooms were robbed. We checked in at 4PM and left at 6PM to go to dinner, when we returned at 9PM 6 rooms had valuables (camera, money, CD players, CD, change,....) stolen. The rooms were NOT broken into but rather keys were used to get in. We had our room keys with us so we presummed it was someone that worked there that robbed us. Also two other people staying at the hotel had valuables stolen from the hotel safe at the same time! The desk clerk and manager did nothing but laugh at us and said they were not responsible for any loss. We checked out the next day and filed a police report, and of course months later the police were not able to solve anything. Avoid the Hotel City Club at Sokolska 10, 12000, Praha 2

Thank you for posting this. My 17 year old daughter is in the process of sorting out accomodation in Prague this summer and I will tell her about this.

Why post info you don't have PERSONAL knowledge of? Now that I've read this on a credible site (Fodors), does that make it true?

Go ahead and book a room there and find out for yourself.

There is one word of advice in this post. WHY were these kids leaving money and valables in the room. I can understasnd CD players, but money?

The teachers should have made sure the kids understood that money and valuables were to be secure. This is a good practice no matter where you stay.

I took a group of girls to Europe and they were under strict instructions not to leave money anywhere. IT was to be in thier money belt at all times and thier money belt was to be ON them.

Several of us made similar observations when this was first posted. But apparently Fodors decided to delete the more "pithy" comments . . . . .

I did find the post on the Rick Steve's site. As my 25 year old daughter is planning a trip which includes Prague, I found that post helpful in regards to not only the theft, but the hotel response to it.

I thought I was being helpful by placing the post on this site.

I think if someone is stealing from hotel safes and entering by keys, there's really not a lot to criticize about having money in your room which could have been safer than on their persons (for many people -- I think many more people get pickpocketed or have things stolen in public than money stolen from hotel rooms).

I think it can be useful info for those who want to read it, but I am surprised Fodors deleted some posts but not the original since it copied material from another web site which is forbidden by Fodors rules (an everyone's). Why didn't you just give a brief summary and then direct them to the exact web site -- no need for the big secrecy as to where you found it, which was counterproductive since one might want to decide themselves what site they think credible, and read the general thread.
