Hotel Chateau de Pray, Amboise

We are considering staying at this hotel for 4 nights in June as a base for touring some of the chateaus in that area. Does anyone know anything about this hotel? We can't find a web site for it, only an email address.

Have not stayed there, we used the Manior Les Minimes in Amboise which was very nice. If you do not choose de Pray you might consider Manior Les Minimes (it has a web presence). By the way, check out the following links for the de Pray (the 2nd is direct to hotel):

We stayed at the hotel in 1996, and had a very nice time. At that time, it was listed in Karen Browns' books; you could check her web site to see if it still is.

It was a convenient location above the river, just outside of Amboise. There are newer, nicer rooms in the former stables, and older (but more authentic) rooms in the house. There is an adjacent park to walk in, in addition to the formal French garden to see in and have drinks. There are also farms nearby, in case you like viewing cows and pigs.

The restaurant there is very good, but we only ate one night there, and the other nights at various hotels in the area.

6 of us stayed at Le Manoir Les Minimes last year and really liked it as well. It is a very easy (2 block walk) into the town of Amboise. The larger, superior rooms were great.

We also had drinks and dinner at the Cahteau de Pray, both of which were wonderful. Chateau de Pray is about 1.5-2 miles from town, so you would need to drive into town.

Go to www.chateauxhotels.com and do a search on "Chateau de Pray" and you'll find info on it. It is part of the Chateaux et Hotels group, which I really like.

As a p.s. to the above post, the Chateau de Pray was the original Chateaux et Hotels Independence.

Good Luck
