Hotel Carriage or Hotel Locarno?

Hi, can anyone help? I will be in Rome for 2 nights at the beginning of Sep and I am looking for accommodation. Currently looking at the Hotel Carriage and Hotel Locarno. Has anyone any thoughts?

Thanks, Fiona

Good afternoon, Fiona
Have not stayed at either of these hotels, however am familiar with the
areas, The LOCARNO is located about
1/2 block west of the Pza Del Poplo
which is the top of the Corso. It appears favorable on www.venere.it/rome/locarno/....
It is a three star hotel with 48 rooms...
The HOTEL CARRIAGE, via delle Carrozze, 36 is a three star hotel with 27 rooms
located on a short street one block north of the Condotti by the base of
the Spanish Steps, ETG gives the Carriage some nice remarks in their
guide.
Would pick the Carriage as a better
location of the two.
If you need any ristorante recommendations drop me a e mail and
will promptly reply.

I have twice stayed at the Carriage and would choose it again though it is a bit pricey for me. Wonderful location as Richard indicated. The rooms are of adequate size, good bathrooms, good breakfast, helpful reception.

Hi Fiona--we stayed at the Carriage in mid-March--it was fine (I don't want to oversell it but the rooms are fine (not huge, but fine), clean, separate bath and good breakfast. Front desk staff speaks excellent English and were very helpful. Last, but certainly not least--fabulous location--easy to walk everywhere and good restaurants nearby. We especially enjoyed Nino (which we heard about from Richard!) and the Enoteca on the corner on Via del Croce (one block over)--great food and atmosphere.

One tip--we stayed on the street side and it was a little noisy; ask if you can have a room in the back.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fiona--glad that worked out; wanted to mention that the front desk staff at the Carriage will make dinner reservations for you (you fill out a slip) and you should definitely take them up on the offer--we went out one night without reservations and it was very frustrating. Ristorante Nino was excellent and just around the corner.

Have fun

Good afternoon, Fiona
Another good ristorante other than the
Nino is one which is located just off
the Corso about two blocks west of the
Carriage and it is the LA CAPRICCIOSA,
Largo dei Lombardi, 8, little square
off the Corso about two short blocks
north of the Condotti. Have very
good Roman foods, also has pizza in evening. Have used same since 1971...
