Hotel Cannero

This hotel looks lovely and gets excellent reviews so I e-mailed them with a booking request. They responded very quickly but when I replied with a couple of questions I heard no more. I have tried e-mailing them twice more and from another address but can't get a reply. Anyone had this experience or know the hotel? I really want to stay there!

Polly..how in the world is anyone going to know where this hotel is located?

annhig Jun 16th, 2007 03:36 AM

hi, polly,

I just accessed the web-site [via that wonderful new invention, google, - ekscrunchy may have heard of it!!!] and they have both phone and fax nos.

why not phone them?

sometimes, a lack of response is because they are full. You could check that in advance by using one of the booking web-sites which feature this hotel.

good luck. It does inded look lovely, perched as it is on the shores of lake maggiore!

regards, ann

I assume you're posting about this hotel
http://www.hotelcannero.com/.
If so we stayed there a couple of years ago and it is indeed lovely. The staff is very good, dinners and breakfasts are excellent and the views lovely. Make sure you opt for a room with lakeview.
The hotel is very much frequented by Brits so there should be no problem with language if you choose to call them with your questions.

We just got back from Lake Como/Maggiore/Piedmont last month. We only had 3 days there -- wish we had a week. Hotel Cannero is an outstanding, clean, 4* hotel, and for the price (we paid 190 Euro for a balcony overlooking the lake with 1/2 board. It's family run, and they speak very good English.

The breakfast buffets were enormous, and the 4-course dinners were fantastic. My wife is a salad person, and they had a huge salad bar.

I cannot say enough about this wonderful place. You will not be disappointed. After the first day, the staff was calling by my name: "I have a table ready for you out on the veranda, Mr. Budman." :-)

They got back to me right away when I made my reservation, but were a little tardy when I sent in a request asking about internet access.

Canero Riviera is a cute little town with several small restaurants.

Go for it!! ((b))

Thanks all for your responses.

Sorry ekscrunchy - I didn't know I needed to say where the hotel was as I thought only people who knew it would reply! (And of course the answer is the Hotel Cannero is in Cannero....)

ann - I couldn't find any site that took bookings for them - it all seems to be done direct.

grimmy and Budman - thanks for the recommendations. Hotel originally offered me rooms to fit my various requests and dates and it was only when I replied with questions that they ignored me so I thought there might be a problem with translation - which put me off phoning. (Thought I could accidentally end up with wrong rooms etc)

Anyway,I'm now worrying a bit about transport - those of you who know it, is it feasible to get there without a car?

And next question is - any recommendations on other hotels on Maggiore or Como that are as lovely as this one appears to be for the price??!!

Polly, we spent one afternoon there, touring the Hapimag resort and sunbathing on the grassy beach behind the resort.

Cannero is a village located next to Lake Maggiore. It's very quaint and picturesque, especially when sitting at a table alongside the lake and being served a coretto grappa by a handsome Italian waiter.

The only thing that put me off on Cannero is that it is so tiny. We had a car and drove to Cannero from Ascona. We could have taken the ferry too. I tried to find a bus connection from Ascona and Cannero and was given a boat connection only.

Hopefully another well-travelled Fodorite can give you some better information.

If you don't have a car, polly, you'll have to rely on buses and the lakeboats. The boats are only a couple each day (if memory serves). I'll see if I still have a bus website in my bookmarks. J.

We stayed at the Hotel Cannero in May. We reserved a Jr. Suite (renovated) with a lake view. It was fabulous. Make arrangements with the hotel for a taxi from the train station to the hotel. We did not and almost couldn't get a taxi! It was also more expensive than the taxi the hotel will arrange for you. Cannero is indeed very small. Not much to do but relax. However, we did take a water taxi to Stresa and smaller islands.
