Hotel California vs. Villa Rosa?
 

I am wondering which hotel is better for the value and location. They both got very good reviews on tripadvisor and by other Fodorites. I'm not too concerned about breakfast quality or quantity, but I really want a room with a great view, a terrace and it has to be clean.

If any people have experience staying at both or either, please fill me in. Thanks.

I have only stayed at Villa Rosa and love it. Hotel California is just up the street from Villa Rosa and I remember reading an article about it recently as being a good value hotel. I vote for Villa Rosa, though!

I recently stayed at Villa Rosa. It is a very good budget option. However, I wouldn't go back. It is right on the street and the scooters are very loud and annoying. The balconies are separated by some plants, but you can definitely see and hear your neighbors. We were stuck with some of the nastiness chain-smoking people. And one guy clipped his toenails while everyone was attempting to eat breakfast for about 20 minutes. He must have clipped off the nails to the nub! It was just disgusting.

The bathrooms were pretty annoying too. Our toilet smelled at times as though the sewage was backing up. And the showers were a disaster - very small and water everywhere.

Service was so so.

Still, it is a great price, and I guess you get what you pay for.

Have you looked into the Covo dei Sarceni? It's right on the water and has a rooftop pool overlooking the little beach. It may be a little more expensive than the others, but we loved it.

Thanks for your suggestion about Covo dei Saraceni. I looked up some information about it on-line and it is very beautiful but a little out of my price range. Perhaps I'll consider staying there next time if I have a bigger budget.

As I am sure you know, the problem with the Hotel California is that you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

We had a lovely experience at Villa Rosa with a spectacular view of both sea and mountains, so I have only good things to say about it.
