Hotel booking question
If I send a fax to a Rome hotel requesting a room, do they fax you back to confirm a reservation, or call you or??
If you have a fax number and specify that you want them to fax you a confirmation, then it will be faxed.
you can also email them. most hotels tend to respond very quickly. If you do fax, do as xxx says. Calling can't hurt either. I found emailing the best and it leaves you with a paper trail just in case.
I emailed every hotel we stayed in, and they all responded fairly quickly. I was sure to print it out and take it with me as a measure of insurance but never had a problem with the reservations.
Although I mainly use email today, when I was doing a lot of reservations by fax, I stopped including my phone number and only giving them my fax number. Otherwise I was often awakened at 2 or 3 in the morning here, when they opened up and answered their faxes. They'd call my phone number instead of the fax number, but often I'd pick up the phone to get the fax signal.
If you receive no reply to a faxed reservation request, assume that the hotel is fully booked for your dates. Smaller places sometimes just don't bother to send a "sorry, we're full" message. I figured this out after sending a fax to the same hotel three times.
So if you have a fax confirmation, is that a guarantee or an email confirmation is just as good a guarantee as a faxed one?

I am doing everything via email and printing them out.
