Hotel/Apartment suggestions Nurnberg

In the early stages of planning a Christmas trip to Switzerland and Germany.

Would appreciate suggestions for hotel/apartments in Nurnberg, preferably within a short walk from the train station. At the moment we're considering a five night stay - not looking for anything posh, something in the 120-140 Euro price range would be ideal - quiet a big plus.

Thanks in advance.

Hotel Victoria serves the absolute best breakfast so take that into account with price.

We liked the Art and Business Hotel. Moderate sized rooms and a decent breakfast. It is on a busy street a couple blocks from the underground portion of the train station. We heard no street noise when we visited this April. It is a no-smoking hotel.

Just checked Art and Business Hotel, booked for our nights, but thank you, looked promising.

Checked Hotel Victoria too - looks like a great location and that breakfast buffet looks fabulous! It's a bit more than we want to pay, but I'll keep it in mind, thank you.

Best breakfast we've ever had was at Hotel Minerva in Freiburg im Breisgau, which I've just booked for our time there.

For five nights maybe look at an apartment.

MY mistake! I should have known better than make any recommendation without asking about a budget first however I must admit I have no idea what they charge these days.

That looks perfect Macross, particularly s I'm leaning towards an apartment, but also not available for our dates. Thanks though, I'll keep looking.

I've just booked here for five nights - I'm a bit concerned about location, but otherwise it looks good. I have free cancellation, so I will continue to look around a bit.

Any thoughts about the location?

It is a 30 minute walk to the markets. It would be so much better to be on the other side of the tracks. It is cold walking in December. The apartments look nice but did you check out any of the others on the vacation rental sites? Airbnb even?

My husband said there is a U and a S line and a tram so might get you there without walking. He took the tram one day to the document center.

Good to know Macross. We enjoy walking, but it could well be inconvenient. I've not checked AirBnB but have been looking at other rental sites all afternoon. I'll keep looking.

This is where I have spent part of my youth. Quiet and not far from the center (U-Bahn Station Aufseßplatz is 500m away - 5 min. to Lorenzer Platz-, Tram Nr. 6 200m), but in a somewhat greyish neighbourhood.

Thoughts on this place location-wise?

On the other side of tracks as suggested above, and seems to be well-located, but would appreciate some thoughts on this.

3rd floor, no elevator - nein, danke.

If you are not after posh there is a relatively new Holiday Inn Express just down from the train station at Bahnhofstraße 14. We stayed there with two teens just after it opened last year and it was fine. Lovely staff, decent breakfast, rooms not especially spacious but more than adequate and good showers. They were putting finishing touches on a Hampton Inn next door when we were there, and there were a couple other places on the same street. Very good location for public transport and easy walk to the old town / market and castle.

Hmm ... Gostenhof has a reputation as the "Nuremberg Bronx" locally. While I don't consider it unsafe personally, it's not the neighbourhood where I would want to spent my holidays.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting comment about the
Nuremberg Bronx. We stayed in an 'interesting' neighborhood in Dresden, and had a wonderful time, so I'm not too fussed about being the Bronx. I will do a bit more research though, thanks for the heads up.

I've booked the apartment, but have plenty of time to change my mind if need be.

Seamus -

There are two units, I've booked the one on the ground floor - I was confused about that as well, but it has been cleared up by owner.
