Hotel Ambassade/Amsterdam

Hi, after reading several pages of messages I feel completely confused! I was planning to book the Hotel Ambassade but have seen several conflicting messages on this board.
It seems like people either hate it or love it. I've seen it described as quiet and too noisy. Some people mention lovely antiques; others thought it was seedy. I would have loved to have booked the Canal House but it is already booked. Any other suggestions or thoughts?

My wife and I stayed at the Ambassade for 3 nights in late April. We would give it high marks in all regards. The Canal House was our second choice, but fortunately, Ambassade had room for us. It is central to about everthing, and we walked to all the "must" see's. The staff was very helpful and recommended good restaurants. The breakfast was about normal. We had room 67, which was on a top floor, facing the Herengracht. We don't remember any problem with noise, in fact our memory is that it was pretty quiet. The room was not large, but clean and nice furniture. The bathroom modern, small but efficient.
I have not seen the negative posts on this hotel, and it was written up in National Geographic Traveler magazine last year. For us, it lived up to it's billing. O yes, you can use their internet for free after normal office hours. Glad to answer any other questions you may have, email direct if you wish. Have fun!

Another 'thumbs up' for the Hotel Ambassade. We stayed there three years ago and enjoyed the hotel very much. The location was terrific and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was beautiful. We had a lovely deluxe room that had a small living room facing the canal and a nice bebroom end the back with a cute little balcony. We would recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Ambassade this past April. It was lovely in every respect. The surrounding area is very nice and convenient. There are several restaurants within a 10 minute walk and Centraal Station was maybe a 20 minute walk. We had a room on a top floor overlooking the canal. The staff was friendly, professional and very accomodating. I don't recall any problem with noise. Only downside was the morning breakfast which we thought was a bit overpriced.
The Ambassade is a very classy hotel in a quiet area which I would go to again. The term seedy describes most of the city of Amsterdam.
