Hotel Ala vs. Locanda Sant Agostin

I am planning my honeymoon in Italy for April/May 2004. I recently read a review on this site about the Locanda Sant Agostin and visited the site... It looks lovely. I am able to get it through Triple A for 160 Euro and am considering reserving here rather than Hotel Ala (180 - 200 Euro per night for a superior room).

Can anyone help me make my decision?!

Thanks!

Another resource to use for comments about these hotels is the Trip Advisor > www.tripadvisor.com

Message: We just got back from Venice and stayed at the Locanda Sant'Agostin.

ITs centrally located, large room with 10 or 11 foot ceiling. IT has a modern bath and was recently remodelled totally.

The building looks old from the outside..but is modern inside with fresh paint, decorations, furnishings, etc.

We just returned from staying in Venice at the Hotel Ala. We loved the location and the hotel. It is about 3 minutes from San Marco Square which you reach by walking by the best shops in Venice. There is a vaporetto stop just through an archway which leads you into the charming square in front of the hotel. While we were unpacking the sounds of the gondoliers entertained us.
I cannot compare the hotels or their locations, I can only tell you that I really enjoyed Hotel Ala and would recommend it to all my friends.

I love the Hotel Ala location, but right behind it is a cute B&B for less named Locanda Barbarigo--search to find.

Ln..thanks for saving me some typing.

principessa, IF you do decide on Sant'Agostin, I would get a rate directly from the hotel to compare with AAA.

The hotel is run by two brothers who speak English.

You can contact me directly if you have any other questions abpout the hotel.

We love the Ala. If you can get a room on the small canal that runs beside the hotel, it would be a lovely honeymoon location.
