Hotel Accommodation/Area Recommendation
 

We're flying into Heathrow on the 7th of March because a friend of mine is getting married in London. The issue I'm having is about where I should try and find hotel accommodations because the plan is to stay there for 2 nights and leave to head towards Ireland to extend our trip an additional 8 nights.
The wedding is in the Central London area and the flight to Ireland is looking so far to be cheaper out of Gatwick (we haven't booked that flight just yet). The problem though is I'm coming in the Heathrow area and there's a pretty good distance between the two airports. I tried getting a flight from USA to Gatwick but the prices were ridiculously different between the airports which is why we ended up getting Heathrow instead. Are you following me here?

Book a hotel in Central London close to the wedding venue. You can take public transit into London from Heathrow or book a car service depending on your budget. Then do the same to get from London to Gatwick after the wedding.

If you tell us your budget for hotels and the area in which the wedding will take place we can recommend hotels.

No, unless you're just asking where to stay for a couple of nights between coming into Heathrow and going out of Gatwick? I'd say it hardly matters, anywhere in central London with proximity to the event you've come for. Getting in & out of London either way is easy enough unless there are aspects you haven't mentioned.

On another forum you, I assume it's you, say the wedding is in Hounslow. Hounslow is not central but on Heathrow's doorstep. Find a hotel that advertises itself for Heathrow and you'll be close to the wedding and can easily reach Gatwick if called for.

Ok -- is the wedding in central London or in Hounslow? And do you want to stay near the wedding your entire time in the UK? Are you a member of the wedding party or are you just attending the wedding/reception and don't have a lot of other wedding-related activities?

If it is Hounslow and IF you need to be there the whole time - then stay near the wedding and then take the National Express coach from LHR to LGW - easy.

If you are only attending the wedding and don't have other duties - then stay in central LOndon so you can do some sightseeing.

But first off -- you need to figure out where the wedding is . . .

It's in Hounslow which I thought was in Central London because I thought it was in Zone 1 and Central London was a term used to cover a section of the zone areas. I know you probably just read that sentence and did a Scooby Doo look like really did she just say that, lol. I'm not in the wedding party but am just attending the wedding/reception.

I'd suggest a hotel like The Swan in Staines http://swanstaines.co.uk/ might be a nice place to be for a couple of nights. Close to the airport, your wedding and to Windsor should you have the time I think it would be convenient and more relaxing than a hotel in town given your schedule. I haven't stayed there but plan to, have seen it recommended as a good alternative to airport hotels and it gets decent reviews on Trip Advisor. I have walked by on the Thames Path and the location on the river can't be beat.

Hounslow is not central it is west london by the airport in zone 4, not zone 1. Zone 1-2 is generally central london.

Don't forget to factor the transport costs getting out to Gatwick for the cheaper flight. It may make taking the flight from Heathrow the better option when you consider time, effort and cost.

have you looked at one of the websites like cheapflights.co.uk?

I found plenty of flights from LHR to Dublin on 9th March.

much easier than going to Gatwick.

Thanks for that explanation. I've looked at places like Kayak.com for flights from London to Shannon, Ireland for March 10th and Ryanair was the cheapest but they only use Gatwick. I keep waiting on Aer Lingus to come down in their prices but so far they are about $250 for 2 adults traveling.

Have you checked BA? I usually find great prices from BA far in advance...usually just slightly higher than the budget airlines but much less stressful because you don't have to worry about the luggage weights.

There are flights on BA on 10 March into Dublin for £56 each right now...

I've never heard of BA(assuming that stood for Budget Airlines). I just checked their website and the cheapest flight I saw was $176. Maybe they go up and down like the others. I thought about bidding for a one way ticket on Priceline but I was scared it would be from a far away airport or that we would fly at like 5am. I'm an avid stalker of airline tickets if you only knew what it was like buying the flights there and back home.

Awilliams, are we no longer talking about accommodations? It seems to have fallen by the wayside. If flights are the subject now another thread might do you more good, get more informed parties involved.

awillimas, I am sorry but sometimes you cannot have everything. Time to make some choices IMO.

I think it was the ADD in me that got sidetracked. Sorry about that. I can get the flight for the trip to ireland taken care of I just really need to decide on the accommodation area. The only thing that was factoring into it was the flight but either way, I need to decide on a good middle ground place that's close to Houndslow for the night of the wedding, close to central london so that I can do some sightseeing, but also easy to access traveling for in the event my flight is out of Gatwick instead of Heathrow.
