Need opinion on Hotel Accademia in Florence. <BR> <BR>Thank you!

I've never been there but hope you're not mistaking it for the famous Accademia in Venice.

KC: It is wonderful! I stayed there last year. Did read on this Forum, tho, that they're booked. I made my reservation about 6 mos. in advance. It used to be the Russian Embassy. It has a wonderful courtyard and garden. It's quiet, and you can walk anywhere from there.

Here's info on the hotel from my trip report. We stayed there in Oct. of this year. <BR>Stayed at the Hotel Accademia (Via Faenza 7) just about 4 blocks from the train station. The hotel itself was very clean and the rooms were extremely plain and sparse. The staff was friendly and the location pretty good for getting around by foot. Our room faced the street and it was very noisy, all night long. There were a few hostels around so there were lots of boisterous young ‘ens coming and going (and singing) at all hours. Plus it’s a block or so from part of the open leather market and you get to hear them dragging the carts to their places at about 5am…other than that…great hotel for the money. (About $145.00 for 3 inclu. breakfast) In case you need it, there’s a small laundry-mat a few doors down.

I stayed there a couple of years ago, and have to agree about the noise, especially first thing in the morning. Perhaps if you had a room away from the front of the hotel, it wouldn't be so bad. Another thing that annoyed me was that one of the beds in our room (which had two single beds) was in fact one of those sofas that convert into a bed, and wasn't very comfortable at all. We had to share a bathroom, but there seemed to be nobody else on our floor using it, and it was kept spotless at all times. The hotel's location was perfect for sightseeing, being only a short walk from the Duomo.

OK, you've convinced me. I'd avoid that hotel like the plague! And at that price who needs to fight the noise, there are many charming hotels in Florence with equally convenient locations.

Don't cry for me argentina, They played that song very loudly each night around the time the bar two doors down was closing. Very good location, nice people, price was right and next to an Irish pub where lots of american students hang out. If thats your thing go for it.
