Hotel Aberdeen in Rome?

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen in Rome? It is recommended in Rick Steves. I am looking for a well located, very nice hotel. Any suggestions?

I have stayed at this hotel twice in the past two years (two weekends ago was the last time).I think its a wonderful hotel for the location, price and staff. I normally am not too wild about any hotels that Rick would recommend but found it in a few other guide books a few years ago and decided to try it.It was terrific! The location is convenient to use all the public transportation to get around Rome;the area is very safe (police station is down the street)rooms were very nice with cable,minibar,A/C,etc. The free breakfast is decent enough(nothing hot like eggs or sausage)but things like cereal,cheese/meat,yoghurt,fruit,etc.The staff are so helpful in answering questions, giving you ideas or suggestions for anything from restaurants to tourist sites. There is also free internet in their public room for patrons of the hotel. I go to Rome everyweek for work(just got back a few hours ago in fact) and have to stay in a different area and hotel.Frankly, this hotel with its 3 stars can hold its own to many of the 4 stars.Just be aware that there are different size rooms at the Aberdeen and be sure to let them know what type of room you will need on your stay.Well worth the price in Rome!

I forgot to add that its a half block from Piazza Repubblica which is a metro stop and a half block off Via Nationale(sp-sorry jet lag and I cannot spell at the moment) which is one of Rome's main streets so you can catch a bus to the Vatican;go over to Termini station or ride anyplace around Rome. The Baths of Diocletian are there along with the National Museum. Via Nationale is a major shopping area too. The price is truly unbelievable for what you are getting in a decent location.

Spk-I just realized that you were the one going to Rome with your daughter in the other thread. This is the hotel that I took my daughter to the first time that we ever did Rome as a mom/daughter trip-its perfect. We could walk everywhere, cab if we wanted but also use public transportation. Its close enough to Termini station that you could take the train from there to Pompeii for the day,use the metro system to do the Ancient Rome area, use public transportation to go over and do the Vatican, etc. If you are interested-book early as this is a VERY popular spot with alot of people. The money you save on using this hotel will allow you to treat you and your daughter to great shopping deals and wonderful meals.

You need to specify what you think of as well located. I like the Aberdeen because I like being close to the train station and close to the metro line. Others have said they'd rather be nearer the Vatican City, or Piazza Navona, etc. etc. If you fall into the latter category, it might not suit.

It is a pleasant 3 star - but again, you need to qualify 'very nice' - the 'very' makes me think you want something a little more luxurious.

Thank you SO much for your replies. I must admit that I like a little luxury but a good location and helpful staff is more important. I also like to wake up and have breakfast (even a light breakfast is fine) before we start our day. Lots of other places I noticed do not offer this. In terms of location, I would like to be somewhat central. Can I walk anyplace good from here?

We found the Aberdeen lovely, too. With a fabulous family staff. Not luxurious, but better than spare and the photos currently on their website are representative. We had one of the rooms/bathrooms pictured. It is located on the same street as the Rome Opera, if that interests you. Closeer walk to the Forum and Col. than Piazza Navona, but if you like to walk & don't mind a 20/30 minute one, you can also walk to Navona. However, as others have said, it is near excellent public transportation. The one thing you give up is the ability at night to go out your door and be right at the Pantheon or Piazza Navona for evening walk abouts or piazza action. You can, however, easily taxi there, which we did. Depends on what you most value as you sort your priorities.

Thank you for your help. Claire I most appreciate your response because I think that I do want to be closer to the evening action as I will be with my 16year old daughter and I think that would be fun. Should we be closer to the Pantheon? Any suggestions on hotels in that area? Thank you all for your suggestions.
