Well, I wouldn't go that far. I've followed them and purchased their music since they hit the scene a few years ago. They are still popular in most large metro areas having big dance/club/gay scenes -- SF, LA, NYC and Chicago for sure. They played two full-house shows here in SF at the Warfield less than two weeks ago, just one stop in a tour I would suppose.
But I do agree with Boy George when he said:
"I think the Scissor Sisters' lack of mainstream success here (in the US) says a lot about America. You hear them everywhere in New York - every bar, every cafe, all the trendy places. But it hasn't crossed over into the mainstream and it's because they're openly gay."
