Hot chocolate and pot -au- feu in Paris?
 

Does Angelina's have the best hot chocolate in Paris? Planning a trip to Paris for late Jan. into early Febr. with my husband, daughter & son-in-law - a good time of year to appreciate hot chocolate.

Also, does anyone have a favorite bistro, cafe, etc. that serves good pot-au-feu? We had this dish at Chez la Vieille years ago, (it was wonderful), but when we went back this past March they no longer had it on the menu.

This may be an unpopular opinion, I just got back from Paris and didn't care for Angelina's hot chocolate. It was just way too much for me, like drinking a melted candy bar. Maybe if you're a real choco-holic you would enjoy it more than I did, but I much preferred the regular hot chocolate I got at a little cafe.

Likewise. My husband, a real hot chocolate buff, much preferred the version at Paul's Boulangerie in the 6th.

Thanks for your replies. We are chocolate fans, the darker & denser the better. We may have to do some "hot chocolate " research while we're there by trying several places.

A number of years ago some other hot chocolate was rated higher than Angelina's.

I read recently in an old post that Cafe de Flore had a good hot choc. Worth a visit while going down blvd St Germain?

Chez Denise has a pot au feu special...it used to be on Thursdays but you call them and ask. I had one of my best recent Paris meals there...(did not have the pot au feu but would RUN there next time to try it...)

Cacao et Chocolat (on Ile St. Louis) had wonderful hot chocolate...nice and thick! It was perfect on the chilly November days that we were there, although a little definitely goes a long way.

Eating, dining, snacking, etc. is always (to us) a special & important part of traveling to France because food is taken so seriously there. (We love that! So much better than "all-you-can-eat" average food.)

Actually, we never really "snack" in Paris - we're too busy walking miles & miles seeing as much as we can & working off all the wonderful bread & dessert we had the night before. We devour all the spectacular bakery window displays with our eyes, however!

Our daughter loves hot chocolate, (rather than coffee), so I'm trying to find the "ultimate" place for her to have it in Paris.

My husband remembers fondly the pot-au-feu we had years ago and was so disappointed Chez la Vieille didn't offer it anymore. I saw it mentioned somewhere as one of the dishes on the menu at Aux Charpentiers - has anyone been there recently?

Another place for good hot chocolate is Ladurée--one location is on the Champs-Elysées.

La Charlotte de l'Isle on the Ile St-Louis is supposed to have wonderful hot chocolate.

I think we're just going to have to make a "hot chocolate pit-stop" everyday to try all these places - we'll have to come up with a rating system...

This may be a silly question, but does Jacques Torres have a place in Paris? My DH and I never got to try it in NYC.

I would vote for Angelina's for the beat hot chocolate in Paris. That being said I would certainly be willing to try all of the hot chocolate offered elsewhere to do a complete comparison. Maybe on my next trip I will begin the research. Have fun.

I love the hot chocolate at both Angelina's and Laduree -- but I like it really rich and chocolately. Here's a list of other great places to check out le chocolate chaud:

I think I liked Angelinas chocolate better, but then, I love Laduree.
I think the best thing you can do is to go to as many places as possible each day and taste test and let us know the winner :D
