Hostels/Pensiones in Seville and Granada
I'm travelling to Spain in mid-December for a week. The first few days my home base will be in Seville followed by Granada. Are there any recommendations for cheap accommodation? 20-something female looking for something clean, basic and ideally located near some of the cities' main attractions. Thanks in advance :)

We rented an apt in Seville so can't help you there but I can recommend a nice place in Granada . . . Hostal Meridiano, Calle Angulo 9.
My daughter and her husband had room 204, two twin beds, table/chair, large wardrobe, bath w/small tub/shower, a/c, balcony, 37 e. ($45.51). I had room 207, tiny room with one twin bed, wardrobe, table/chair, sink. I shared a bath with one room (19 e., $23.37). The hotel had two computers with email available free . . . nice hotel, well located. They have a website: http://www.hostalpensionmeridiano.com/indexingles.htm The location was very good, walking distance to everything, nice/friendly bar next door, park nearby, many places to eat. This is not a full-service hotel, they didn't have a restaurant but did have vending machines in the lobby. It is a great place for the money. Hope this helps, Sandy (in Denton) |
Sounds like a good place in Granada, sandy_b.
I'll make sure to check it out, thanks! |
I can highly recommend Hostal Museo, just off Museo de Bellas Artes and Plaza de Museo in the center of town and a ten min. walk to the Cathedral. Ideal location, quiet, clean and reasonably priced (33/40€, single/double, would perhaps recommend a double for single use as the rooms are quite small):

There are hostels in both cities, but pensiones and hostals (cheap hotels)are good and inexpensive alternatives. Ones I stayed and can recommend are:
Seville: http://www.donatrinidad.com/ (located in Sata Cruz area; first floor occupied by owner; rooms on second thru fourth floors, but no elevator; may speak little english, but not sure) Granada: http://www.hostallimagranada.com/en/index2.htm (two separate buildings across an alley; elevator; english spoken) |
In Seville I can recommend Hotel Alcantara - www.hotelalcantara.net . It's in Santa Cruz (beside Casa de la Memoria where they do flamenco concerts) and a very easy walk to the main sights.
Don't miss a visit to the bar La Carboneria - it's not too far from the hotel and great fun. |
Years ago (1985) we stayed at the Hostal America next to the parador on the edge of the Alhambra grounds. It was cheap ($25)with demi-pension (breakfast and one large meal). I do not know if it has stayed relatively cheap. Here's a photo:
