Hostels in Munich
 

I am traveling with a friend (never been to Europe before) to Munich in May. I am starting to look into hostels to stay at, but I have never visited the city. Any suggestions of some good places or areas of the city to try and find a hostel? I have looked at a map, but I am just not familiar with where things are. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thank you in advance! ~K

You could try the International Youth Hostel Federation in Munich.Its important that you become a member of IYHF in your country.
You need to book the room in advance as you are travelling in peak season.
Secondly,if I'm right,you'll be allowed to stay on ly for 3 consecutive nights only in any IYHF.

You could book online.The prices are aroung Eu 20-25 per night.

I've not been there personally, but Wombats is very highly recommended everywhere, so I'd take a look at that hostel.

You don't have to be a member to stay. The IYHF hostels sell "welcome stamps" for 2-3 Euros per night extra which allow you to overnight as a member; once you yave 6 stamps on the little card they give you, you have a membership.

But you'll probably do better if you can find a private hostel nearer the center. www.bug.co.uk and www.hostelz.com provide descriptions, reviews, and locations for all kinds of hostels.

I stayed at Wombat's in 2002 and would highly recommend it. Clean, fun and centrally located.

Go to your local library, Barnes & Noble or Borders, etc. and get a copy of Let's Go Europe - this book does by far the best job on covering hostels anywhere - both the HI (Hostelling International) ones and the many private ones that are often a more palpable alternative to more institutionalized HI hostels.

They critique many and give web sites - the book researched by harvard students.
