Hostels in London
I am looking for a cheap but nice hostel in the centre of London. Close to the main attractions would be nice. Do you know of any?

Jen: Think twice before deciding on a London hostel. There are some good ones but most are really iffy. The main problem is that hostels in London are not just for the backpacking set - they are also used by the social services to house homeless, drug abusers and other down and outers. So unless you know a hostel and its area very well, you could have problems.

And besides, they aren't huge bargains. There are scores of clean safe B&Bs all over London for little more than a basic hostel and you can have a private room.

Hey there Jen,

The Holland Park YHA one is by far the nicest, but the most central YHA one is just off Oxford Street in North Soho.

YHAs are not used to house the benefits-recipients that Janis mentions.

Check it at

http://www.londonnet.co.uk/ln/guide/accomm/budget_yha.html

HTH!! And have fun
= )

Jen, my husband and I are leaving for London in 10 days and already have booked a hostel in Shepherd's Bush. It is St Christopher's Inn... They have more hostels in the city... To take a look at them online, try http://www.st-christophers.co.uk/ It seems alright for us... If anybody knows sth bad from the hostel, please tell us!!! cheers :)
