Hostel Los Amigos...Madrid?
 

Can anyone give me some info on this hostel we are booked for this July.

I cannot give you any info. I don't know no one who has been there and only know what the web says (which i suppose you know it too) because I have just looked at it and don't like it at all , but anyway, that's for me :)
I just can say the location is very good, central and the Royal Palace area is very elegant :)

For a network of hostel staying travelers try reading over on www.lonelyplanet.com at their BB similar to this one called The Thorn Tree, western europe branch.

i stayed there when i came back to live here in madrid and the place is AWESOME!

they now have 2 locations, the original one just off the plaza de opera (around the corner from the royal palace) and the other not far from there up calle arenal on the way to puerta del sol.

hehe, jer !! I have to say that I just saw the bulk beds and the shared bathroom and that was enough for me. I don't mean to say it is bad (quite the contrary, it looks really good for a hostel) just it's not my cup of tea :)

yes, i misread your message. you are right, you wrote "I have just looked at it and don't like it at all , but anyway, that's for me" which i should have understood as it was not your style.

as this type of hostels (albergue) go, this is one of the best but it obviously has nothing to do with a normal hostel where you have your own room and bath.

the "youth hostels" fill a much needed market gap between normal hostels and sleeping in the street.

most of these types of hostels cost close to 20 euros a night in madrid these days and for 25 or 30 you can get your own room in a normal hostel (low end however) but the "youth hostels" have the attractiveness of being social places where one can meet other travellers.

i did say i stayed there a few nights when i moved back to spain but i was 24 and poor-out-of-grad-school then and am now 34 and would NOT stay at one as i am beyond sharing a room and bath (with anyone but my wife :-)
