horseback riding tours

Hello,

I'm looking into riding tours in Europe, and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. I think I've narrowed my choices down to the northeastern part of Spain (Gran Penedes), the Dingle Peninsula or Ireland, or the Sligo area of Ireland. I will be traveling in May or June. I've never been to any of these places, so would love to hear if anyone has any thoughts about the areas, or riding tours in general.

Thanks!

Do you have a specific operator in mind? And what kind of riding tour? A gentle hack from spot to spot, some galloping on the beaches, a trek for miles on end from point A to B to C, or just a couple hours in the saddle? Or maybe some cross country jumping?

I would definitely recommend finding and booking a tour operator before you get to the area. I've personally used Dingle Riding, in Dingle Town, though just for a short hack, not a tour. The owner was very nice, with horses & tack in good condition.
Can't comment on Spain, but while Dingle is incredibly gorgeous it doesn't lend itself to long distance riding (too many hills & uneven ground). But you can get a great ride on Inch Beach. Sligo might be better suited to long distance riding, and I remember seeing some info for companies in the area that offer supported point to point rides.
Hi Kathlene,

I've looked at tours through Hidden Trails, but I'm open to other companies as well. I'll check out the one you mentioned. As for the kind of ride, I've been looking mostly at rides that go from point A to B to C, etc. since it seems that I would see the most countryside that way. Galloping on the beach sounds heavenly!

Thanks!

Don't overlook Iceland as a possibility! The Viking horse is wonderful and the landscape is spectacular. They have all levels and times available; check icelandair.com for the trekking holidays.

I spent a wonderful week riding in Sligo last June. I booked it through Equitours and was quite pleased with the riding outfit and then entire trip in general. Let me know if you are interested in knowing more about this.
