Horseback Riding on the Riviera?
Has anyone been horeseback riding on the Riviera or can anyone suggest a spot to do this? We'll be visiting in June for 11 days, and would love a scenic ride (we're no equestrians!)
Also, has anyone taken any scenic harbor cruises or water excursions in Nice or Cannes that they would suggest? Thanks! |
The main horseback riding area is not on the "Riviera" but in the Camargue -- dozens of ranches specialized in horseback riding through the saltwater marshes and the flamingo ponds.

A while back someone asked a similar question, and I remember seeing a response about a riding center near Nice. You might be able to find it by doing a search on this site; if I come across the URL I'll post it here for you.

Ummmmm....even if you COULD find a place to rent horses, rest assured, you will NOT be "riding on endless, secluded, wide beaches for hours".
The fact is...there are very FEW sandy beaches...or beaches period...on the Côtes d'Azur (between Nice and San Remo). If you're familiar with California....think Big Sur (mountains meeting the sea)...with lots of villages/houses/development. If you REALLY want to ride horses, pay attention to Kerouac. |
Well, most of the Côte d'Azur is NOT mountains meeting the sea. The hills rise some miles behind the coastline, with actual mountains still farther off. However, riding horseback along the coast wouldn't work because of the crowds of people the horses would have to get through; most of the beaches, sandy or rocky, are quite close to strips of hotels.
