Horse Guards' Parade - Changing of the Guards

By reading this forum, I am seeing that the Changing of the Guards is equally as good to watch at the Horse Guards' Parade.
If the Changing of the Guards is scheduled at 11:00, what time would we need to arrive? Also, how long approx is the ceremony? (We will travel in July)
Thank you!!! This forum is wonderful! :)

Don;t know if it's equally as good - I actually prefer it - but then I'm a big horse fan. When I've been the crowds are much less - since you're not seeing Buck House or getting the serenade.

But I find the horses make it much more impressive.

You don't really have to arrive early at Horse Guards -- 5 - 10 mins max.

This will give you an idea . .

Great video link. Thank you!
By looking at a map, it seems about a 10 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square. Is that about right? I'm hoping to go into that National Gallery that day and will take a break to go and watch the Changing of the Horse Guards. Do I have my walking time correct? We are fast walkers :)

Oh - it wouldn't take me 10 minutes from Trafalgar Square. It is just through Admiralty Arch and around the corner, or a short walk down Whitehall. 5 mins max.

But the Gallery is on the opposite side of the Square - so w/ dawdling to see the fountains and people watch - you could stretch it to 10 mins :)
