Horse Guards Parade

I read somewhere that Horse Guards Parade takes place only once a year close to Queen's BD. Is that right? So, we can only see the Change of Guard which is daily?

Trooping of the Colour at Horse Guards Parade is once a year.

But the changing of the Horse Guards happens every day - and is totally different than the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

(BTW - Horse Grauds Parade is not a "parade" - it is a place)

Janisi,

Do you know where the changing of the Horse Guards is? Is it at the Horse Guards Parade close to the House of Parliament? Is it the one that's at 11 am?

The Mounting is at 11 AM (10 AM Sunday), the Dismount is at 4 PM. It takes place at Horse Guards Parade and it is much easier to see than the Changing of the Guard. It is east of St. James Park, fairly close to Downing Street.

A couple of my photos from the Dismount are at http://www.mightymac.org/gb25b.htm

The parade ground where the Horse Guards parade is the Horse Guards' Parade.

The Ceremony that takes place, once a year, on the second Saturday in June is the Trooping of the Colour. This is the celebration of the Queen's official birthday, her real one is on 21 April. Tickets are required to see the Trooping on the Parade, available in February.

The event features bands and troops on parade as well as the mounted band on horses. If you stand along the Mall, which is the tree-lined boulevard that runs from Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square, you will get a good view of the procession.
