Hoping for London hotel suggestions....

Hi all,

I know that the topic of London hotels has been thoroughly exhausted, but I'm still having some trouble finding some options that I like.

I read through many posts and haven't seen exactly what I'm looking for.

I've been to London a few times, most recently three years ago when I stayed at the Kensington Rooms Hotel in S. Kensington. I am interested in trying a new place as the reviews have been just awful since then.

My husband and I are going for a short 4-day trip to London. I would like to find a hotel that is close to the typically tourist things -- and by close I mean near a convenient tube station, etc. We're all for walking and/or using the tube. Ideally, I'd like to find a hotel that is within a 10 minute walk to some restaurants and bars, with some nightlife close by. I'd like to spend $200 tops. I'm fine with budget hotels as long as they're clean and relatively friendly - if they're well located.

I'm having trouble finding anything that isn't really expensive (i know, it's London!). I've been lucky with finding some real gems in other big European cities -- but I can't seem to find the hidden gems in London.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I believe the newly refurbished Lowndes Hotel in Knightsbridge is offering rooms for 109 pounds; don't know the exchange rate with dollar, but that's a very good rate for a great area.

you can try holiday inn group of hotels. Book it direct with the hotel and they have good rate www.ichotelsgroup.com

also you can try www.londontown.com

Sorry, the 109 rate was for Myhotel; which is also fantastic. There's one in Bloomsbury and one in Chelsea (Brompton Cross, behind the Michelin Building, not far from South Kensington Tube).

You are never going to be close to all the typical tourist places, the city is just too large. You might check out the Thistle Charing Cross. It's at Trafalger Sq. and you can't get much more "central" tourist-wise then that. Tube and buses are at your feet (the hotel is built over the Charing Cross Station), you can walk across the bridge over Thames very easily from this location too. Plenty of places to eat (all varieties, fast food and upward price wise).
