Hoping for Help with Paris Apartment for Five

My family of five (2 adults, kids 15, 13, 10) is looking for an apartment in Paris for a week. In August. This is our first trip to Paris as a family; we'll be doing The Usual Stuff.

I've identified the following possibilities:

1. http://www.vrbo.com/96989

2. http://www.vrbo.com/66677

3. http://www.vrbo.com/61747

4. http://www.vrbo.com/90955

5. http://www.vrbo.com/79864

I'll also take other suggestions. We haven't yet bought our airline tickets, so we can work the dates a bit if necessary.

I would not rent Nos. 2, 4 and 5 without knowing the size. Two bedroom apartments can be small. Ours, for example, is 59 square meters (two bedrooms, two baths). Convert the square meters to square feet, match that to space in your home and imagine the five of you living in those confines for a week. No. 2 looks attractive, and that one, at least, warrants a query about the size. All of the locations look fine and there is a lot to be said for two bathrooms for five people if you're willing to trade off decor.

All the areas look great. 4 and 5 may be a bit smaller (esp concerned with 5).

Many thanks! I'll definitely check on the size.

We're used to being a bit cramped; in the U.S. we often wedge ourselves into a hotel room. But more space would be better, for sure.

I'm looking around a bit more, and I've come up with these (in addition to Nos. 1 and 3 above):

And another:

This last is $1590 all included.

Last month we stayed in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment in the 11th on Ave de la Republique less than 50 yards from the St. Maur metro stop. 4th floor with elevator. Computer with DSL plus wifi connection. Large & spacious (1450 sq. feet) with the living room and dining rooms overlooking the street. Grocery stores in three directions. Lots of restaurants nearby and a crepe stand on the next corner. The owner's daughter met us when we arrived and went over everything. This place can sleep up to 8 and it far exceeded our expectations. It's listed at 215 Euros/night for 7 nights. Found it on VRBO #47170.

OK, the walls are closing in on me, and I need to make a decision. The finalists are:

OR

http://www.vrbo.com/96989

The first one appears not to have an elevator, and the loft requires a ladder (we're all very fit). But the location etc. looks great. A/C. $2300.

The second has an extra bath. $1960.

Which one makes more sense?

travelbunny May 17th, 2007 04:30 AM

The second. 2 bathrooms with 5 people really computes. I am not really a fan of loft space as in the first apt. I think your actual "foot print" of the apt is quite small and it maybe cozzier than you would like with the 5 of you!

Cindy,

I like the look of No 1 and I like the Marais versus the 7th arrondissement, but that charming spiral staircase may be VERY small, if its the ancient kind with the risers radiating from a central pillar. I would enquire about that before committing, especially since that type of venerable architectural feature may have considerable step wear, making the walk up extra challenging.
