Hope this isn't a crazy question...

But I am considering going to Egypt in February. (flying out of Miami) Would anyone have any concerns due to all the war stuff? The middle east board does not get much action, so that is why I am posting here. Also, as far as airfares from Miami or the eastern seaboard, is $900 (taxes included) a good fare for Feb? Any thoughts about if, or when, they will come down or is this the normal price? For the life of me I can't remember what they ran prior to 9-11. I got back from France in Feb, and wouldn't hesitate to go now if that's what I wanted to do, but the middle east/north Africa situation may be different, because of the war. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think this is an excellent question and I ask myself the same thing. I really want to go to Egypt, but would I go now? I was scheduled to go in November 2001 and cancelled for family reasons, not 9/11 reasons. My parents went and had a great time. That said, as much as I wouldn't hesitate to travel to Europe, and do several times each year, I think I'll wait on Egypt.

If you go, you will certainly enjoy the benefits of fewer crowds.

I went to Egypt two months after 9/11. I was quite nervous but it turned out to be fine. I never felt threatened or heard any anti-North American (I'm Canadian) sentiment. The people were friendly and, since tourism was way down, seemed quite glad to see us. However, I'm not sure I would choose to go there right now due to the war. A personal choice.

Can't help with airfare as I flew out of London and my flight was included as part of week-long tour, which cost me about 600 GBP.

If you do go, I would suggest that you don't go alone and find a good tour. Just arranging transport on your own would be a nightmare I would think. Depends on how adventurous you are though.

On the Egypt board, Alice's Egypt notes were very helpful to me. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].

Thanks Blondie and Grasshopper, I was kind of thinking that things would be settled by next Feb. Pluse I thought 900 usd was a good fare from Miami, but I don't know. Anyone else have a opinion for me. I appreciate all and any help. Thanks.

Hi Paula,
You might want to look at http://apps.flights.com/.

They had a Miami/Cairo flight in mid Feb for $718 + tax.
